Want to route a single Traktor deck to a VST effect with S4

I posted this over at the NI community , but haven't had a response, and I'm trying to solve this issue by the weekend:

Okay, so I know that I can use Soundflower to route individual decks in Traktor to something like Ableton Live, where I can then apply VST effects. However, with that setup, I lose control of the faders/crossfader on the S4. I'm trying to find the best solution to route a remix deck in Traktor to a VST effect while still having complete control of the S4.

I'm assuming I need some sort of external USB audio interface. Would the Audio 6/10, for example, work for this? Can I route individual decks to the audio interface, than route the remix deck channel back into the interface to be sent to a VST host (and ultimately to my MacBook's audio out)? Is there an easier, more elegant solution? I really just want to be able to apply effects to the drum loops in a remix deck, and not lose any S4 functionality. Thanks!

I appreciate the input, and I was afraid this would be the case. Basically, I will lose some S4 functionality no matter what.

I've considered buying Maschine (which hosts VST effects) and a USB audio interface so that I can route the beats to the "live input" track of the S4. I really wanted to use the VST effects on my remix deck (which I use almost exclusively for beats) since I have all the beats sampled and ready to go, and I like the workflow of my F1. Anyone have enough experience with Maschine to compare the ability to drop live beats into Traktor versus the F1?

Understood.

Best bet in my opinion is to route all audio from the s4 into ableton to a single audio track, to ableton's master and then to the out, with another soundcard with low latency and using an additional controller (I mean you don't need to buy another controller, your iphone with touch osc is enough to control some vst effects).

The problem with ^this is that the channel faders won't work, unless he switches to the MIDI layer and maps Live's

Route tracks/audio to ableton; the audio tracks to your ableton master and use the master out from ableton as your main out to your speakers/whatever. You still control transport and all the main controls from the s4. Just remember that you'll need to record eventually if you need to, the sound coming out from ableton not from traktor (no internal recording) as you won't record your vst effects. You can control eventually ableton or your vst host with another controller or virtual controller, something like this:http://digitaldjtools.net/tools/stompy/.
You can also do the same, switch to midi mode where you map controls for ableton (or even create a hybrid midi ableton/traktor mapping which probably would make more sense).

Or you can route a track to ableton, route back the audio into input channel c or d, but then you still depend on the crossfading/volume faders issues for opening audio coming through and then back to another channel (you duplicate the audio to another track in a sense). I'm not sure I'm clear here.

To be a bit clearer you are limited by the s4/it's soundcard/internal mixing mode as long as you want to have the audio back to the s4.

But I'm not that literate with Ableton so maybe the above is nonsense and needs to be corrected by someone with much more experience.

A different audio interface won't matter since the only outputs you have in Traktor set as internal mixer (the only way to have working faders in NHL mode) are master, monitor and record. Sadly, you are out of luck with the current or previous versions.

While it's a different scenario in my case, this is one of the reasons I got Maschine to handle my drum loops and ignored the remix deck concept.

Alternatively, you could use Ableton to do the job (use the S4's MIDI layer to control it) and route it inside a Traktor deck but this way you will lose the ability to to grab loops from tracks (a workaround is using the monitor output and using the mon.cue buttons to select the source, then record that into Ableton).
