Beginner , need help ! Posted on: 24.03.2009 by Gil Passalacqua Hello everyone!I'm very interested with this virtual DJ thing and I have decided to start at summer ( because of holiday = lot of time to practice ). I need answer to couple of questions: 1. Can I get started with Numark Omni Control ? It would be the best option for me, because of it's low price. 2. I've looked couple threads about your setups and they were all awesome and fancy. Lots of lights and different kinds of gear , but do I need anything besides Omni Control ? Maybe some effects ? Help me out, I'm new to this whole concept! | |

robin loo 23.03.2009 | hello.. i started out a cuple of months ago with a bcd 3000, nicely priced, inbuild soundcard and in my opinion pretty good for beginners to see how its like.. there are tons of good tsi files for 2 or 4 decks.. but i'm definitely gettin a vci100 this summer.. |
Andy Cavelli 23.03.2009 | Hi Vilkuna, welcome to DJTT! You will get varying opinions on the questions you have ask... Personally I am of the belief that when first starting out it`s best to buy entry level gear. That way you are not blowing your hard earned cash on top of the line gear your only going to use 10 times, then move onto the next hobby. A couple hundred bux most people can absorb... But when you start talking 4, 5, 6 hundred and higher on each piece, not a good idea to just have it collecting dust. Sure you can sell it, but you`ll never get what you paid and you have to go through the hassle of actually selling it... After investing in some entry level stuff, you can figure out what type of mixing it is you want to do, how many controls you need, and the arrangement they need to be in. AFTER this it`s time to save up for that special gear you really want! again just my opinion, take it for what it`s worth. That being said, you`ll need: Computer: desktop is fine if your just messing about at home. Laptop is ideal. Software: Try before you buy. Find the environment your most comfortable in. Heres a list of some of the programs out there (http://www.djranking s.com/community /showthread.php?t=4200) I believe there is another list in the community s somewhere as well, you`ll have to look. Controller: Tons out there, have a look around... Some have a soundcard built in others dont. Soundcard (if your controller doesn`t have one): Again, I would go entry level especially if your just going to be practicing at home. Headphones: This is the only exception I made to my rule of entry level first. Grab a choice pair right away. You`ll always use them later on with your ipod or stereo, if you dont happen to continue on with your djing venture. hope this helps a bit. |
Robbi Papst 23.03.2009 | It will work fine, you're gonna need a sound card too. i suggest an audio 8. you should also be able to control fx with it |
