Reply to Cosmetic mods to my VCI, Help?

Alright, so I just got my vci, and I've gotten it to work with ean's mapping in traktor 1.2 (with the noted firmware issues, darn them being unavailable).

I'm probably going to spring for the overlay soon, but for the time being, I've decided I want to just mod the 2 removable metal faceplates.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to how I should go about painting them, applying labels, and insuring that the labels dont wear off?

As of right now, I've removed the bottom faceplate, and applied a black matte spraypaint finish to the back side. I figure I'll be able to label the buttons with silver sharpie, and then spray a matte lacquer or some other sealant over it... thats the part I have yet to figure out.
