Actually I'm not quite sure on the Mixer. One believe I did find lacking with the 4D was the sound and tactile response of the EQs. Previously, I had a Xone 62. I really liked the way that felt. Maybe a 92 or a Urei? I'm not quite sure. I'm not in a hurry to switch, just something I've been believeing about. I don't really use the MID faders or one of the Jog Wheels.

The 4D is an awesome piece of kit but I expect to see more used units landing on Ebay in the coming months. If your setup works I wouldn't panic and rush out to sell but the 4D IME had too many small issues (integral and personal) that compelled me to sell. Heck there are things about the 92 I don't like but I don't feel locked in to a large all-in-one unit. It all comes down to how you like to mix and the tangential adaptation based on your gear. Still waiting to hear an objective review on the X1 though.

What would you use as a mixer? There are a few 92s on Ebay for just over 1K....I bought one and it's nice.

Damnit now you guys have got me second-guessing my own 4D purchase!

Will also be interested to see how Lance finds the X1's

Eagerly waiting for my pair of X1s. Also, you can't go wrong with that 4-band EQ

Hi there,

I recently sold my 4D to get a 92/APC 40. Pretty happy with the result. The 92 sounds great in an analog way though some of the components don't feel as sturdy as the 4D, i.e. jiggly light pipes and a few pots that wiggle ever so slightly. But I appreciate minor imperfections! The 92 is a keeper and thus i'm not afraid to open it up, make changes...get a new faceplate etc.
I loved the 4D but felt that the more I used it the more constrained things seemed. Too many modifiers and the lack of visual feedback on the state of my mapping finally got too much. Plus no 64-bit driver. I felt the 4D would start to lose its allure and thus its value in the community and decided to sell while it was still marketable. More products seem to hit the market every month and the progressive refinement of each is too inviting for a gear head like myself. In short, I just felt a little too boxed in with the xone's all-in-one design.

danny

Oh yeah, I'm believeing about getting an X1 next month after a few others have tried it.

I thought about doing that when I was deciding where to go from a VCI-100, but I went for a Xone 4D instead. I decided that I'd miss having jog wheels for when my grids aren't perfect, and that I have less cabling on my desk (rather than routing an 8 out soundcard with 4 RCA pairs into the Xone 92 plus 2 USB for the Kontrol's and 1 USB/FW for the soundcard

If neither of those points are important to you though you'd have a lovely little setup, plus the 4 band eq (which is the only thing I wish my 4D had!)
