Ableton + Akai APC40 Live Sample Recording Delay / Delete
Posted on: 05.04.2010 by Bethel Crane
Hello to all,

I am in the process of complimenting my SSL with Ableton Suite 8 on the DJ side of the house and moving forward. I have been able to make a fairly simple DJ setup: 2 channel A/B and two additional channels to record live samples through (see image).

Three questions:

  • When I record, there is a delay. I have changed the quantization preference to 1/8, but it will not take even on normal clips added.
  • If...when I make a mistake, I would like to delete using the APC40, dividing my time between the keyboard and the APC40. I am trying to move completely off the keyboard. How do I delete using the APC40?
  • Quite simple, AS8 starts with a default 120BPM and while I am still having a few issues getting my clips to play correctly with the warp, what is even more mind-boggling is trying to figure out how I would do a tempo change?

Reading the manual, I see that you can automate tempo, but as a DJ, the tempo is more dynamic, changing over time or one song to the next. Next to a Killerhertz drop to switch tempos, I am only able to play a set at one BMP. Coming from vinyl, this is killing me. What am I missing?

Thank you.
