Reply to A little help with diy game pad controller please!

I am in the need for a physical crossfader to control the one in Traktor via midi. I have a nice little controller the Stanton SCS3 system, but because it has all touch controls, I have no way to really learn any scratching techniques.
After much googling, reading, etc. I believe this can be done with a cheap pc usb game controller that has the thumb joysticks. By connecting a fader to the joystick wiring then using mjoy or the like to translate the HID to midi.

1. Am I correct so far?
2. What kind of(or which)fader/crossfader should I use, and how (what wires go where) would I connect it to the joystick wiring.
3. If I leave the other joystick alone, couldn't it be used for an X/Y controll?

Anyone with knowledge or experience out there that can help out?
