Numark Omni Controller - Graphics Mod
Here is a graphics mod I did on the Numark Omni controller. My Omni graphics rubbed off after very mild home use. I also wanted to group controls to a midi map that I created for my controller and traktor.

So here's what I learned so you can take apart your machine and not break it!

1. All knobs on the front pull off EXCEPT the Jog Shuttles. If you pull on these really hard you can break off the wheel like I did (I was able to fix it as the break was not irreversable). So Step 1 is pull off all knobs except Jog shuttles. If a knob is tough to pull off a flat blade screw driver can help by inserting between the gap and the deck and giving a little twist to the screw driver.

2. Remove back plate. Once open you will see the back side of the Jog wheels. There is a silver shaft in the center of each wheel. It is held in place by a half disk clip. Remove this clip with a small screw driver. It will pop off the shaft. Once you do that the Jog wheel will come out or fall out.

3. Next you will notice two support rails on each side of the box. There are two screws attached on both the top and bottom. Remove those screws and the 4 screws that run along the sides of the box.

4. Next you'll need to remove the top plate where the RCA and USB jacks are located. 3 screws near the center should be removed and the plate will come off.

5. At this point once you remove the 14 screws on the face of the unit you should be able to simply lift off the face.

6. I used vinyl to cover my Omni. I hand cut all the designs. If you have access to a vinyl cutting machine at a sign shop or a high end office plotter you could do something machine made.

7. I marked up the basic dimensions and then used a Exacto knife to trim out the basic full face cover. I laid down some cardboard then placed the vinyl on that carboard face down, then the face of the Omni on top of the Vinyl and trimmed the shape out.

8. Next I attached the vinyl to the face of the Omni. A trick when working with adhesive vinyl is to dampen the suface of the Omni with hot soapy water. This will give you a little bit of reworking opportunity as the vinyl will not completely stick instantly. Helps on alignment. Once attached you need to work the air/water bubbles out to the edges or to a button or knob hole. The ones you can't out just stab the bubble with your exacto knife and press out the bubble.

9. Next I trimmed out all the buttons and knob holes using an exacto knife. This worked better than pre trimming them before attaching sticker to face of Omni.

10. Overlay vinyl sections and extra graphics were put on next and then reassembly.

NOTE: When you remove the face of the omni there are small clear plastic pieces that reflect the red LED lights up to the face (8 of them, one for each kill and one on each tempo slider). These will just fall out so watch for them. Upon reassembly alignment of these was a bear. So I taped them in place on the face then had to work them in a little once placing the Omni face back on.

My Design matches the following TSI.

Volume slider and Xfader are stock to Deck A/B. All Center black knobs are stock for EQ/KILL on Deck A/B. The Headphone volume, master out and Cue/Program knobs are Stock.

The Red section is for the Focus Deck. I did this as a way to always be able to work with DECK C/D fromt he Omni. Starting on the Top row of Red knobs.

1. RED, Top Left Knob - FILTER
2. RED Top Center Knob - Pan
3. RED Top Right Knob - Volume
4. RED, Top Left Button - "Previous Deck Select" - LED Lights when Deck C is Playing.
5. RED, Top Right Button - "Next Deck Select" - LED Lights when Deck D is Playing.
6. RED, Second Row Knob Left - Effect 1 "Dry/Wet"
7. RED, Second Row Know Right - Effect 2 "Dry/Wet"
8. RED Second Row Button Left - Effect 1 On/Off Toggle
9. RED Second Row Button Right - Effect 2 On/Off Toggle
10. RED Third Row Button Left - Loop Size Previous
11. RED Third Row Button Right - Loop Size Next
12. RED Fourth Row Button Left - Loop Set/Loop Active
13. RED Fourth Row Button Right - Play/Pause

All LEDs in RED section follow the status of that function for the current FOCUS deck.

Silver Section:

Top Right Knob - Unassigned for now (any ideas?)
Top center knob - Effect 1 level FX Unit 1
Top center button - Effect 1 On/Off
Top Right knob - Effect 2 level FX Unit 1
Top Right button - Effect 2 On/Off
Second Row Left Knob - Effect 3 Level FX Unit 1
Second Row Left Button - Effect 3 On/Off
Second Row Right Knob - Unassigned
The rest are unassigned as of now.

Enjoy and hopefully this helps anyone considering modifying a Numark Omni Controller.
