Looking for a cheap, basic midi brain.

So here's my idea.

I don't really want to do the arcade mod since I like having the LED feedback on the buttons, and I basically just like my VCI the way it is!

However I was believeing, why not just put 8 arcade buttons in the same configuration along with a shift button onto a separate bar that I could put along the bottom of the VCI on its stand? Separate USB connection and everything.

My question really is this: is there a midi brain that I can buy quite cheaply ready to go out of the box, just solder buttons onto it and it will send midi notes with a built in USB socket?

There's not much point doing this if it gets too expensive since I could just buy a midi fighter!

Sorry if someone's already asked something similar, found lots of mentions of Midibox but from the website it looks like you need to build that yourself... tell me if it's a stupid idea!

I was very tempted by that, but I just really like the idea of arcade buttons, everyone gets so hyped up over them on here!

You might be as well to buy the Novation Dicer. If you need to buy a midi brain, enclosure, leds and buttons you could well be up to the price of of one. You wouldn't then have the hassle of building something. I don't know what skill level you are or whether you have a soldering iron, tools etc. Factor all that in when you are pricing this.

Jeez, it's not often I recommend buying something before making it.
