Older (CDJ 500) gear? So I was paroozing the web the other day and I believe I found the most beautiful piece of electronic gear
ever made...
http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/3...96a8a110c3.jpg
Yes, a CDJ 500S/700S. I like them so much in fact, that I'd just as much want a pair of those and a DJM 500/600 instead of two CDJ 400s and a DJM 800. Of course at the moment I can't afford either of them but hey they are nice to look at.
Does anyone have anything to say about the CDJ 500(S)/700 and or DJM 500/600? |

I agree with you, 100s are way too ugly. And loop is essential to me.
200 does cost a lot, here in Serbia used ones go for about 200eur.
I got my denon dns1200 for 240eur. For now, most interesting choice for my second player (beside finding dns1200 for some similar price) is Numark ndx400 (price 227eur NEW!).
There is a raving review for the Gemini CDJ-600 on amazona.de (which is usually a pretty good site - but in German, so I don't know if it would help if i linked the article) and that one costs 285 |

I'd look into Allen and Heath myself, such as an old Xone 62 or Xone 32, they'd be much better than a DJM-500/600 imo |
Clay Lorow 13.11.2010 | I believe that Gemini cdj600 is very good. Nice jog, pioneer-like buttons, and so on, its just that I believe that Numark is a bit better, quality vise.
Also, on some videos they showed that cdj600 has a bit slow read of cd's. |

Leigh Derbyshire 09.11.2010 | I'll talk from what experience I have with my 500s, that being not much.
70EUR is pretty good for two, just remember that these are pretty spartan when it comes to features. The non-limited editions have no loop in adjust, and none of the 500s have much in the way of shock protection.
The 100 doesn't have loop buttons and is ugly IMO so I wouldn't touch one with a large stick. The 200s have much more features and much better shock protection, but they also cost a lot more. For a bedroom setup the 500s will be alright but if you ever using the gear live I'd go for the 200s. |
Clay Lorow 09.11.2010 | Hey guys,
I saw an add that some guy is selling cdj 500s for 70eur.
That looks attractive to me, but I am total noob when it comes to older gear.
So what can you say to me about these?
Is it different much from cdj 100 or cdj 200? Also, if I decide to get this one, what should I pay atention to? |
Leigh Derbyshire 18.09.2010 | Oh boy, here we go.
I got the 500 II in today, after playing around with it for a bit I noticed the jog wheel was a lot more sensitive then my II limited. I had opened up the 500 II and saw a few adjustable bits on the inside. There are 5 total knob ish thingies, two say 'MSB ADJ L/R' (L and R being what side it is) and those have something to do with the internal DAC (PCM1700P, if you were interested). There are another two near where the CD drive assembly connects to the mainboard that say TR.GA and FO.GA. I have no clue what these do. Finally there is a blue one off near the middle of the board that says SP OFS ADJ. My guess would be that OFS is offset and it has something to do with the CD drive, but I don't know who SP is and what he is doing there, again I don't know. I'm hoping that one of those is a jog wheel adjust of some kind but I'm kinda doubtful. I set all of them in the 500II to how they were in the 500IIL but the jog wheel was the same.
Anyone have any suggestions? |
Leigh Derbyshire 16.09.2010 | Well I got my 500IIs for 150, two separate auctions. Looks like the first one has a wonky loop in button but it's an easy fix. Probably just has to be re soldered, at the most a new switch.
Any thoughts on the ecler mixers? I haven't really heard anything bad about them, obviously the 3.0 is a bit bare but I don't have a problem with that (CDJ 500IIs are bare too. ) |
Cristian Carmona 16.09.2010 | i picked up a pair for $500 off of Craigslist, they looked like they were stored for the last 8 years cuz I could find a scratch on them |

Leigh Derbyshire 15.09.2010 | Got the first of two CDJ 500IIs in today, they are good. Only thing they lack is anti skip really. The pitch slider is a bit on the 'dry' side, I should probably look into lubing it up. |
Leigh Derbyshire 07.09.2010 | Behringer isn't known for original designs.
I was gonna make a new thread but I guess I'll use this one. I was looking up more stuff between the DJM 500 and 600, since there are a few guys selling CDJ 500(s) along with DJM 500s. From what I read the 500 has somewhat useless FX but supposedly sounds better than the 600. Are there any other good 3-4ch mixers (or really fancy 2 channel) mixers around the 500$ point? The only other interesting thing I saw was the PMC 280, but I wasn't looking too hard. Bonus points for older mixers.
Oh and the PMC 580 pro whatever looks good, but it's more expensive than a DJM 800. |
Clay Lorow 07.09.2010 | Hey!!! djm500/600 look so similar to my Behringer djx750!!!!
Wander, who copied who??? ;-) |

For manual beatmaching, much better; I couldn't beatmatch with my VCI-100SE faders very well, whereas I've played out CDJ-500's
If you want to learn the ropes as a beginner then I believe the CDJ-500's are a good place to start. I've seen some pretty good mixes on them on YouTube and as said I've owned a pair and spun on some at a venue
If you want to dive into playing with software and controllers, then the VCI-100SE is a great start for that
Basically they're both great for starting out, but depends what route you want to take
As for the DJM-500/600, I've not used one but the aforementioned club had a DJM-3000 (which I believe was pretty much a rackmount version of the DJM-600) which was OK. If it's cheap then it's definitely a good bit of kit to keep you going, as it used to be fairly club standard before the DJM-800/Xone 92 came along |

I'm not using this from traktor, I'm just comparing the usability. I can get usability at 8% range in traktor, comes out to +-1.7% or something silly like that actual range. |

If you can get them cheap I'd recommend them, they're perfectly fine to mix on. The only potential drawback is the accuracy of the pitch adjust compared newer models (they're not as accurate as 1000's or Technics)

Leigh Derbyshire 03.09.2010 | Gonna bump this thread
A little looking on the bays of Es shows that you can pick up two CDJ 500s (plural not S model) for the price of one CDJ 200, give or take. DJM 600s are also rather cheap. Would they be OK to use as a home setup? I know the older models (the big'ns) don't have as much/any dampening, but I don't believe this would be too much of a problem. 16% pitch range is enough for my uses, is the pitch bend resolution about the same as a CDJ 1000 or technics 1200? |
Jessika Kienast 26.08.2010 | You usually get a good laugh whenever DJ newbies use the CDJ500s for the first time. There was a DJ competition in 2003 where a DJ mounted his CDs upside down. Didn't realize that the laser was concealed and the two plates would swing away just as the door was closed.
They're pretty nice because of their size. I've also used the CDJ500, the one where the jogwheel's below and the CD platter on top. That was way back in 1998.
As for the DJM 500 / 600, the 600's still pretty much an industry standard so you'll tend to see a lot of it. I've only used the DJM 500 once and didn't fiddle too much with it because the faceplate was pretty rusted. One difference I can still recall is something with the inputs on the 4th channel and perhaps less / different effects. |
Leeanna Ayla 25.08.2010 | Someone just posted that they were getting back into DJing and they had the 500's I believe. |
