Stanton SC System
Stanton SC System Posted on: 20.05.2008 by Robin Lithgow Has anyone been to Musikmessse, NAMM, etc. and played with the Stanton SC system? It was supposed to be released in early May, but I haven't heard anything about it. I've never played with it, but it definitely looks interesting for a vinyl/DVS guy like me getting into the midi age. A little pricey, but if it does it's job well I might be inclined to get it.Any info would be appreciated. | |

So its possible some of our advanced DjTT feature requests might get missed out on because of this latency - this DOES remains to be seen though. |

Burt Rickenberg 11.01.2011 | Hi Nemonic, love your work, can you help me please? I have been using Traktor with an X1 and Audio 2 DJ with a PC for about 1 year now after using Torq with X-Ponent for a year before that. My new setup is Traktor Pro, MB Pro 15", Audio 2 DJ, 1x X1, 1x X-Session Pro and 1x SCS.1 D. I have thought a lot about what configuration to establish but I thought a legend like you would know best. What do you believe? I want to use the SCS.1 D to give my performance a visual aspect as well as injecting some basic turntablism skills. I also want to stick with internal mixing. I have just purchased the MB Pro and have loaded Traktor Pro but nothing else at this stage. I have had some advice from community members that just have a go at mappings etc. as it's easy, but I am sceptical about this and feel that everything must be done in the right order and each stage of mapping must be done correctly otherwise you can create a evening mare for yourself. The SCS.1 D and the X-Session Pro are also the other worry for me regarding installing the correct software and firmware. Hope you can help. Cheers, Maxiboy. |
Diogo Dj Dragão 08.06.2008 | Thanks alot, man. Just finished my first week there and it's nuts. Lots to wrap my head around for sure. But I have some cool new toys to play with (including the SCS.1D and 1M), and I'm generally loving Florida (even though it's hot as hell). As soon as I get a reliable internet connection I'll put my new site up and start the blog. |
Deejay Atish 30.05.2008 | Sorry... Had to throw in my congrats to nem0nic. Every dj/music community I visit I find him, right back from the good ol' FS days. You will do Stanton good Sir. |

This setup has a lot going for it, because its not a midi translation software it does not have the inherit problems of latency so we could hopefully build some beefy scripts without worrying about adding latency to the device.

Xavier Emanuels 22.05.2008 | Congrats dude, looks like you have scored alot of peoples dream job Cant wait to take a look at this stuff for myself, the programming language is what really sells it for me id loooove to get my hands dirty on that. Sounds like Stanton is headed in a good direction, cant wait to try this stuff out for myself. This setup has a lot going for it, because its not a midi translation software it does not have the inherit problems of latency so we could hopefully build some beefy scripts without worrying about adding latency to the device. The idea of being able to have some serious amount of control over the device seriously appeals to me, i am very much the type to make my own midi mappings and create my own setup how i like it. It will be awesome being able to share coding for devices, i have had some experience will all sorts of different coding/script languages so i am sure this will be a breeze to get productive with and share the love. Thanks for all your info - keep us posted |
Adolf Hit 21.05.2008 | That just made the whole system so much more attractive, even gave me a little gadget wood. Congrats on teh job neMonic, what kind of skill set is required to land a job like that? I would love to get a job at a similar company, designing electric fences + security systems just isnt doing it for me... |
Diogo Dj Dragão 21.05.2008 | Thanks, man. I can't wait to get my hands dirty. Next week, it begins! |
Random X 21.05.2008 | Looks awesome! Can't wait to get a hands on with both the 1M and the 1D. And offcourse congrats on the cool job nem0nic! |
Diogo Dj Dragão 21.05.2008 | Thanks for the congrats! My title will be DJ Product Specialist, but it looks like I'll be doing a bit of everything from development to support and marketing. I can't comment on the specifics for the 1M, but I can say that I believe you'll be happy with the shipping specs. The motorized fader on the 1D will work as you described. If you have it mapped to a deck, it will reflect the pitch value of that deck. When you switch decks, the controller will match settings. This is also true of the knobs and platter as well as the pitch fader. You can see alot of that in action in the videos from NAMM and Messe on YouTube. I know that Stanton wants to build a community around SCS programming. The cool thing is that you'll already have templates available to you so that you can hit the ground running. As your comfort level increases, you'll be able to "hack" it's functionality to suit your needs. More on this later. I'll tell you that this is my FAVORITE part of the SCS, and the reason I believe it's a better controller than the other stuff announced this year. |
Robin Lithgow 22.05.2008 | Thanks for the info nem0nic. Congrats on the job with Stanton, what will you be doing for them? Back to the SCS. How's the fader on the mixer? How's it compare to some of the better mixers for scratching? Do you know if it is replaceable? Like could I replace it with the Faderx or something? How does the motorized fader work on the deck? If you sync in Traktor or something, do it automatically move the platter to the correct speed? You say it's programmable, will there be a lot of info around about how to work with the programming of the SCS? What could you program it in (Traktor, Live)? thanks for all of the info. It's really helpful. |
Diogo Dj Dragão 21.05.2008 | In the spirit of full disclosure, I'll tell you that I've been hired by Stanton recently and will be starting work there in June. That's why I've had access to that hardware before it's been released. I'm not sure when it's going to get released for retail, but I would guess it will be more like late summer / early fall - but I don't know for sure. As for the build quality, it's solid and big. The experience feels very much like working with a traditional deck. The platter is heavy, and the unit is very well made. The coolest thing about the SCS (in my eyes) isn't the hardware itself - it's the fact that it's so programmable. If you invest a little time learning the syntax, you'll have a platform to really get into the guts of how it works and make MAJOR changes to it's behaviors. Think about things like having access to conditional statements and how they would be used with the "super fader" concept. Imagine being able to use the mixer section as an interface and controller for your favorite DAW, then turn around and DJ with it. It's very cool stuff, and without a doubt the most flexible controller announced this year. The SCS has MUCH lower latency than a DVS. It doesn't have to do the A/D conversions or determine positional data, and this eliminates most of the delay a DVS system has. |
Random X 21.05.2008 | Also liking this MIDI setup. So just a post to keep an eye on things. |
Robin Lithgow 21.05.2008 | What do you believe of it? How does the platter feel compared to other CD turntables like the Denon's or the CDX? How was the response? Better than Serato or Traktor Scratch? How's the overall quality? Do you believe it will hold up over time? Have you played with anything using the new Serato Scratch program? If so, do you how does the response of SC system in Traktor compare to the Serato Scratch program/hardware? Any other insights you have about it. Also, when do you believe it will ship, if you're in the know. Thanks |
Diogo Dj Dragão 20.05.2008 | I've had my hands on it recently... What kind of info are you looking for? |
