Choosing a New Controller ? Need Help !
Posted on: 15.01.2011 by Shanon Ohora
Hey guys im looking at upgrading my Xponent midi controller to a better choice, Currently i am looking a the Denon MC6000 or the S4.

Im totally undecided as i was originally moving toward the S4 but seeing the new traktor that does away with the exclusivity of all its features in traktor then it comes down to hardware and the Denon looks better?

Just wanted help deciding as im a bit lost with which !

thanks

The Mc6000 has the advangtage of working as a standalone mixer, which would be good in a club environment, just in case you have software issues. I personally believe it looks better aswell.
I like flashy, I use a KP3 and MF's xD

The S4 is great, but I would recommend a modular setup that uses multiple pieces instead of an all-in-one. The S4 just doesn't bring any flair or style, it just sort of does Traktor. Something like a MF combined with a mixer or a VCI-100SE brings a lot of flair, same goes for using something like a lpd8, dicer, or even a keyboard, but a controller designed to control dj software in a plain manner kills my ability to do anything creatively. I guess if you do get an S4 I would recommend you try remapping some parts of it to fit your style, sort of how Ean remapped the jogs.

Edit: a personal opinion, I'm not dissing anyone's love for the regular S4 mapping, it's just not something I wouldn't do. O.o

The S4 software should receive all those updates, but possible a month or so down the line. I would get an S4, the Denon's just more problems than you need to deal with, and it probably won't be supported by the new Traktor software right away anyways, it'll probably be supported by the time the S4 has the features introduced to it's software.
