MPD18/MPD26 same pcb?+mod help Posted on: 23.12.2010 by Estella Beardmore so Im trying to mod my akai MPD18 pad controller.I want to add a bunch of potentiometers and buttons and maybe a new fader, so I dont have to buy a dj controller(I do not intend to scratch anyway so I dont need jog wheels.) my question: is the main pcb on the akai mpd18 the same pcb as the mpd 32 and 26, just without hardware connected? if so: is it possible to add hardware to the empty connections? if not: is there an expantion board I can buy to add more controls? thanks! | |

Vernie Beharry 24.01.2011 | More than likely not. . . The knobs and faders are all giving midi signals. . .adding a multiplexor may not cut it, and some of the knobs are encoders (Endless rotary). And you'd probably have to reverse engineer the internal programming to allow that kind of mod. . .yer better off just buying an MPD26. For more controls. . .I'd say keep the MPD18, and just buy an additional LPD8 for more pads and some knobs, or a Korg nano Kontrol. (for more knobs and faders, and smaller buttons. EDIT: or save up for the 26 or the 32. . I believe they 32 went down in price since NAMM. |
