Also I would recommend looking at dj's face based in Germany who produce the UV responsive fader / encoder knobs for DJTT. As it was much cheaper for me to deliver it from over the stream rather the pond

They have a decent built quality and really do help in a dark club environment

Firstly I would recommend trying smaller projects before embarking on 'modifying' a working controller.

I haven't yet, but I would recommend if you are embarking on this task take the controller apart, so that you can see the circuit board and what you have to work with. I was tempted to do this earlier this year but I weighed up the risks of modifying it and invalidating its warranty and thought best not to.

Instead I built a custom MIDI controller using 8 pots, it taught me a few valuable lessons of costing and designing the controller to be the most ergonomic friendly. Now we are now drawing up plans for a much bigger controller
