VCI-100 In a club?
Posted on: 06.04.2011 by Carlene Gingell
Hey guys so i am wondering if my VCI-100 can hold up in a club. I know that mk3's and technics are usually used but I wanted to see if it would work. I have an audio 4 soundcard with traktor pro. Also I noticed that when playing gigs with 1125w speakers the jog wheels turned the pitch by themselves, and that was at a hall party, yet alone a club.

So by turning scratch mode off, will it still let me beat match using the outter rings? What exactly does it do?

Super handy for all things custom mapping. You should have space for most controls to be labeled
I'll probably pick something like that up if/when I get a Twitch. It comes with a Traktor overlay but the mapping looks totally shit, like someone spent about an hour learning the basics of Traktor then designed a mapping based only on that...

As is made abundantly clear if you watch the official novation video and listen to the guy wondering over being able to browse and load tracks.

Using the VCI-100 with the original firmware and stock mapping is like buying an iPhone then ONLY using it for calls.

Of course, it does calls well, but there's just so much more potential there (believe the equivalent of SMS, email, built in music player AND angry birds).

The VCI is a totally different and much improved unit when it has upgraded firmware and the DJTT mapping.

So in conclusion, the VCI-100 can be used in a club? It wont have any problems?

assuming you're now using the DJTT mapping, with scratch enabled you can beatmatch with the outer rings and with it off you can use the platter (but not the outer ring, I believe).

Its the original mapping that the vci-100 comes with, and it might not be worth it because it would take me a while to get used to it

when a track is playing and scratch mode is disabled, you have to be touching the jogwheel for it to do anything.

So yeh, what he said.

But has he got a VCI-SE?

If not, once the song is cued, you can always press both scratch buttons at the same time to disengage the jogs...

Pretty sure that works on both SE and Regular VCI's...

yep.

@EsJay it's in a sticky on the VCI subcommunity (technically where this thread should have been posted )

There's a new tweaked version for TP2.

another reason for me to find jog wheels useless, but that's entirely my own opinion. if that's a problem you can try tweeking your mapping so that the jog wheels only bend tempo when you apply a modifier, letting you do all the controlling of the pitch, and not random movement of the controller by other circumstances.
