hey guys

ive been dking for 5months now, and im just started getting into midi controllers and drum machines

i already own the kontrol x1

but i would like to own a drum machine

mpd18 and novation lauch pad are on my mind.

i can get a used mpd for 100, and a new luach pad for 170

which is the better

thanks

I own both, and use both in traktor. I find that the launchpad doesnt let you play cur points that fast, as the buttons do not return to their original position fast enough, the MPD lets you fire cue points really really fast.

launchpad has LED feedback and 4 times as many buttons which is pro awesome.

but all of thats DJing aplications.

if you want to actually majke beats then id go for the MPD every single time. genuine velocity sensative MPC pads make for a much more expressive and natrual drum sound than the launchpad, as it can only trigger midi at ful 127 velocity.

personally, I swear by my launchpad. it goes everywhere I go, but the MPD is the backbone of my hip hop production.

at the end of the day, the launchpad is a grid matrix controler and the MPD is a drum pad, so they are ALL THAT COMPARABLE.

things like MLRV and other such monome type applications are why I love my launchpad so much, but I use shitloads of Max/MSP

hope that helps.

Launchpad isn't a drum pad but for cue point juggling and sample stuff it is kinda awesome. So if you are going to use it with traktor take launchpad

mpd 18 is way old, better get a used trigger finger or padkontrol(better pad response) they have velocity sensitivity which a true drumpad has, the launch pad will only play the cue points. Padkontrol pay no more than 100 bucks, trigger not more than 70.
To use a drum pad you need a drumpad software, which comes with the bundeld cd, or get beatmaker.
