Using X1 on Live Performance
Using X1 on Live Performance Posted on: 23.06.2011 by Teddy Tian Hey all, i hope its the right community
s for that kind of question but im quite lostim using Traktor Scratch Pro 2 on a Macbook Pro and im gonna perform live very soon just uncertain about stuff atm...i was using Timecode CDs this whole time with an Audio 4 DJ , external mixer and 2 CDJs...now i found the timecode CDs un reliable...yet, iv seen so many DJs using 2 X1 Controllers , External mixer and a Laptop with an Audio interface... i have alot of questions of if is it possible to use 2 X1 Controllers instead of a pair of Turntables and how its being done? i.e how to Control tempo or Search between tracks? what are the advantages and disadvantages of using that stuff? I know its possible because iv seen DJs using X1s a Laptop , audio interface and wont even use the CDJs at all their whole performance...i hope im clear, im just confused! Thanks alot | |

I'd have to remap (or find a map that someone else has done) in order to feel comfortable using the X1 for everything, simply because there is no pitch fader on it and I've not invested the time to get the beatgrids right. I'm sure it can work, though. I must remember to come back and check Padi's vid links when I'm not at work ... |

Teddy Tian 23.06.2011 | Well iv been used on timecodes on Various CD players...actually from the new age of pioneer such as CDJ900 , 400 , 850 , 2000 and well idk if it has anything to do with the CD players itself (i.e. firmware and such) but i believe its also Traktor's bad way of handling random actions...i had few times when the timecode CDs are not readable or that requiring Recalibration every few minutes or that Traktor stopped them while playing and well many other random problems, not to mention the hassle of setting it in a club after a DJ who played regularly with no software |

Leeanna Ayla 23.06.2011 | The knobs and buttons on the X1 can be made to control every single aspect of Traktor. You just have to tell them what they control. Or you could use the mapping provided with the X1's if you don't want to customize it. Chances are though if you saw someone using two it was a custom mapping. Technically you don't even need the mixer as you can map one of the knobs to the volume fader. |
