Ks-1974 Posted on: 26.01.2012 by Clinton Voran Any takers? I am dangerously close to clicking on that Buy button. I can see this mapping to lighting software really well. I wonder if you can split the device two control two pieces of software simultaneously. | |

Clinton Voran 31.01.2012 | Learned a bit more about this. I might actually pick one up. The hardware itself is really just a touchscreen monitor in a very nice casing. Seeing how a Waacom Cintique touch display costs like $1200, the KS-1974 package is actually pretty reasonable for the $2500 asking price since it comes with a lifetime license and upgrades for the software. Now, the software itself. It's basically a MIDI emulator (but then again, all MIDI controllers are basically emulating hardware inputs to software inputs via software anyway, so you can believe of this as virtual hardware, which I guess it is pretty much just that). What you see in the videos with Traktor or Ableton showing up beneath the Emulator software is exactly that, Ableton or whatever software you're controlling is indeed running below but don't confuse this as just a reskinning of the software, the Emulator is not, the Emulator is sending MIDI inputs to the software you're controlling. All those virtual knobs, buttons, faders, etc. on the Emulator are actual virtual MIDI controls that are sending MIDI commands to the software you're running. As to my original thought on running multiple pieces of software via one unified interface, you can do that but you would have to switch between what they call Pages. Basically each Page is like it's own independent virtual workspace, so basically whilst you can have multiple pages running, you will still have to toggle between the Pages. There is logic behind this and it is because of the cutting windows to the application running beneath the Emulator feature. Basically, the Emulator virtual controls sits graphically on top of the software it's controlling. For the example of Traktor, to see those waveforms, you basically have to cut out windows in the Emulator Page for Traktor to reveal the waveforms. Makes sense because there really is absolutely no reason to peg your system resources by having the Emulator software redraw graphical elements like the waveforms of Traktor if Traktor is doing that already. Good stuff all around, I believe I'm going to order one, but since it's currently only for Windows, I'm going to have to hold off because I really don't want to dual boot on my Macbook. |

Eli Hergonz 25.01.2012 | ok but overlay doesnt worth 200$ or 600$ and big question for you, can you overlay different programs. Send them email and post here their answer |
Clinton Voran 25.01.2012 | This thing IS an overlay for whatever application is running underneath and with APIs hooking into native button mappings in the applications I would believe. I find that to be of great value really. The Emulator software looks like it's just doing direct midi mappings to the software and this is what I'm really believeing about getting this for. It would basically be like having a TouchAble style application ready at your fingertips except it also does Traktor and lighting application mappings. What I really want this thing to do however is to be able to give me this one unified interface whilst allowing me to control multiple applications simultaneously. This is something that can't be done with the iPad (which I currently run TouchAble on) since with the iPad, it's one app at a time. |
Eli Hergonz 26.01.2012 | dont buy...there isnt any info if that program, like help file. you can CLICK on try button wait a bit and see reviews.. 1. its simple video streaming and its question how much percent of processor will be occupied. 2. Can screens be resized and rotated? 3. Can we combine screens from different programs, or we must use one and that program must be running and not minimized..etc If number 3 is true, then this program isnt worth a cent, then its simple VNC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiSO1K-J3Tg) with overlays for buttons, knobs... wait for a while |
