Turntable servicing
Posted on: 13.02.2012 by Rick Bossett
hoping someone out there can help. basically i've got 2 technics 1200's which havent been used in about 5 or so years but have been kept relatively well. theyve been in boxes with the cover on, cartridges removed etc.

my question is, is it ok to just pull them out, plug and play again or should i be looking at getting some kind of servicing done to them beforehand?

cheers

Pull them out and get cracking! If they've been in boxes there should be no dust damage from them sitting around. If a cable got twisted up beyond repair or something because of improper storage you will figure it out once you play with them (e.g. you'll hear a hum or a channel out, etc.) But it's unlikely they have changed much since you looked at them five years ago.
