I realise the foolishness of my original post haha, had no idea that you could already accomplish this with traktor. Sozza guys!

It's the heart of your setup, personally I'm not trusting this side to anyone but myself.

cool idea though, but noone would like to use club laptop. If traktor was a fast-booting linux OS (remember those times?) then it might gain some traction.
They really should've added another usb port to A10.
I've heard an MBP with an SSD drive can boot up in about 8 seconds.

If ease of transition is your concern, it's absolutely no effort to burn off some tracks to CD to begin your set with, to give you time to set up your gear without disturbing the current DJ.

Of course that involves beatmatching by ear when you transition from the CD to your laptop, but all DJs know how to do that .. right?

An MP3 is just audio. Compressed audio. By playing the audio, in no way at all can you infect a computer with a virus.

I believe we would not go into this discussion if clubs would have enough deskspace for a regular switchover. Plus one of those RCA breakout boxes and 3 free wall plugs on each side of the mixer/decks. That is not too much to ask, eh?
Also a cool thing would be to introduce some gear stands that can completely cover the player, turntable or event mixer, dimensions depending on what gear is installed in the booth.

a top of the line computer costs about the same as a single cdj 2k.... and you can play more than 1 deck at a time with it!

I believe the first thing that needs to happen is clubs accepting a computer as being the core part of the sound system to create the music (instead of CDJs, etc.). If that can become a standard, then you might see DJs accepting it (or having to). It is the chicken and egg scenario to me and I highly doubt NI could influence it much. It is just like getting cars onto hydrogen. The technology is there and cars can be built with it, but there are no gas stations that offer it.

The club owners (or even DJs) would have to take a stance. And being the computer holds a lot of the individualism for DJs and club owners don't see a "base" computer being a part of their sound system to be shared by DJ's(AFAIK), it will stay a stale mate for some time.

why a laptop? give me a well positioned monitor that takes up no tablespace, a powered usb hub on the table next to the mixer, and a keyboard in drawer that comes out. oh, and an absolute beast of a tower computer... preferably something running mac software to minimize virus infection rate.

oh, and no internet on that piece either.

Am i the only one who doesn't understand how this has anything to do with NI? As it stands it IS possible to load mp3's and your tsi file to a USB and then you could import the mp3's to the "club installed PC" and load your new tsi file with Traktor loaded! What the OP asks for, NI already give us the capability to do!

You all make perfectly valid points. Like I said, it was just a thought :3. Another easy way for hooking ip could be via the inclusion of and extra 2 inputs on mixers. With just a volume knob and cue button. Allowing for digital DJs to transition seamlessly either from somebody rocking cdjs or digital themselves or like mentioned before, just mix into using cd then set up your laptop ;D

There's nothing really stopping you from doing this as it is. But for some reason, laptops are the only piece of hardware DJs are afraid to leave in the booth or share, so nobody actually does it.

I don't know if I would want to be rocking on a club installed laptop. What happens when a torrenting DJ opens a track with a virus, and starts off the next 4 months of computer crashes mid-set.
