Vestax TR1 vs VCI-100SE Posted on: 15.02.2010 by Cathie Sochacki Guys can anyone give me some advice on the difference between these controllers? Currently I have the VCI-100SE and I like it but I'm very tempted by the TR1. It's specifically made for Traktor pro and I believe it looks a little more user friendly than the VCI for the functions of Traktor. I'm only looking for the basic mixing and effects stuff, not particularly interested in some of the advanced beatures like beat juggling etc on the vci.Is it worth upgrading? Any comments? Thanks | |

To me this video really shows what it can do nicely I am a fan of platters for pitch bending/scratching/spinbacks but tbh the Twitch looks like a better planned UI. Love the 8 pads and the FX section looks nice and clean - I believe I'm sold on this - any others I need to check? |

| Kiyoko Wellisch 25.07.2012 | On the other hand the Twitch doesn't feel that nice. The faders are iffy and the pots are *horrible*. I would recommend checking one out in store before you commit. |

I believe I found it at 75% off (cause I had only bought it a full price 2-3 months earlier). | Audrey Pinda 24.07.2012 | Honestly, if you're looking into a TR-1 in all seriousness, I don't see why you'd rule out the Novation Twitch. I realize it's set up a little bit differently, but they are similar enough to the extent that I feel it's a worthy mention. |
| Torrie Gillard 23.07.2012 | I'm needing to replace my busted VCI100SE and had been looking at the VCI 400. However since this would make both my audio 8 and PMC 580 mixer redundant I am now looking at the TR1. To answer your question colly, you'd use the bend buttons to temporarily adjust pitch up and down whilst mixing. Also I have read that the pitch faders are hi-res. Just bumping this thread to see if anyone has any more info to add? |
| Cathie Sochacki 16.02.2010 | Cheers guys. Well basically I got the VCI-100 after having the M-Audio Torq Xponent. I liked the feel of the Xponent better and for some reason get less pleasure out of mixing on it. The things I do not like on the VCI is that you have to use buttons to select the effects between the decks whereas the TR1 has individual effects controllers for each deck. I know it does not have platters but it has the pitch bend buttons which I assume will 'nudge' the track back or forward if the beatgridding is not correct when you load a track. Other things that look better on the TR1: - The standard play/pause buttons appeal to me more than what the VCI-100se has - Also the 'Drop Cue' along with 'Cue Back' and 'Cue Forward' - 4 Band EQ just like the A&H Xone 92 - while still having the filter. - Master Volume level - which the vci does not have, and proper knobs for cue and headphone level etc - I'm guessing the longer pitch sliders are easier to actually pitch a track than on the vci - however without platters I'm not sure how it would work - any ideas? | Roselle Mcnaul 15.02.2010 | Of course, on a side note, you could pair the TR-1 with a cheap pair of jog wheels, like the ones from DJ Tech, and effectively have the results of a VCI-100SE. Just something to consider. |
| Roselle Mcnaul 15.02.2010 | They're different beasts to be honest, I've tried both and can safely say they are awesome controllers, they just cater to different crowds. Either which way, both were made specifically for Traktor Pro. The VCI-100SE is aimed at condensing and emulating a complete DJ rig, personally I favor "feel" over features, but in all honesty, the VCI-100SE encompasses both in a very balanced manner. As far as the TR-1, if you are familiar with Hiroshi Watanabe's style of music and mixing (who helped design it), the unit is very much aimed at the technical mixing side of Traktor, not the manual "control", hence no platters, simply transport buttons. If you plan on getting this unit, you might want to hope that pitch fader can accommodate a fine pitch resolution of 0.02% to see-saw tracks into sync, or beat grid your tracks ahead of time. I'm assuming its not that accurate since it does not seem to mention anything of hi-res MIDI support. |
| Antonia Dodgens 15.02.2010 | lol beatjuggling on a vci100 and TR1 is not really possible unless you are referring to cue point based beat juggling. the TR1 for one thing makes quad deck mixing much much easier on the brain. im not too educated on its features overall though |
