DJM 2000 or Denon dn-x1600
Posted on: 16.12.2012 by Rosario Whitington
Hey DJTT,
As the title says, I would like to hear your opinion on these two mixers
In my country the DJM 2000 is quite cheap and are therefore compared with the dn-x1600 instead of 1700.
What do you believe of them? How is the effects? How intuitive is the layout, when you are mixing etc.? And last but not least, which would you go for (prefer)?

best regards,
Latoria Kavulich

One of my pros for the Rane setup is thats its very simple
and one of the cons, for the xone 4d, is as you mention, that I believe the layout is quite bulky to work with (I've never used it, so it's taken from what i see on the picture and my imagination)

What about the rane empath mixer? have you tried it or any other rane mixers?

XONE 4D STEUP.jpgRANE EMPATH SETUP.jpgOK, I've been believeinh an this is what I've concluded.
The DB4 is sadly out of my reach, as I'm going to buy used, and my budget is at 1000 $
I have two technics so they aren't included in the price ofc.

first setup,
Rane Empath,
audio 6
and a midi controller such as machine or kontrol x1

price about 1000$, remember everything is bought used

second setup,
Allen & Heath Xone 4D

Price about 1000$

What would you go for?
I have pros and cons on both mixers but I just can't decide.

And as always are there a better 'bang for the buck'?

Thanks for the help so far

I hate this hobby, it empties my pockets...
Just bought the Rane Empath mixer, and are now going to look for an audio 6 and x1 or machine

Empath is a lovely mixer. One of ranes best imo. That + audio 6 + x1 is win

Or are there any better alternatives I should look at?

Look at b-grade as well as second hand. I got my DB4 b-grade as it was a replacement that the original customer didn't want, so I got a brand new mixer and saved a bomb.

Just bought a Denon X-1600. the Traktor compatibility (both MIDI and soundcard) is excellent and the upfaders need to be felt to be believed. I've personally not heard the EQ on a DB4 but the X-1600's is lovely.

As a bonus point, the tension on the crossfader is adjustable for blending or scratching, with it's loosest setting being more than adequate for a scratch.

First of all, I've also read that Ranes mixers are like tanks, but I just believe the layout are a bit old, and I'm concerned that I will never do any use of many of the features, like CD trigger and flex effect. I would still like to hear thought from one, who have tried it.

To djferken, "off topic"
Nice to finally meet someone from Denmark Lets keep the conversation in english. I usually keep myself updated on the british and german Ebay site, other than that, CCProshop in Aabenraa are a good place to shop

Lets get back to the point. As I buy my stuff second hand, I very rarely see any DB4 on sale... But other than that, I still keep an eye out for the Xone 4d, DJM2000, Rane Empath and DJM 850k And I would love to get more opinions on these.

May i ask where you buy you stuff? :-D

(Just asking of pure curiousity, as i live in Denmark too)

I've never used an empath myself but Rane mixers are tanks.

nobody used the Empath and got thoughts to share;-D

RANE EMPATH SETUP.jpgThen I could buy an audio 6, and route channel C and D through the third channel on the mixer and beside that have a Maschine "or kontrol x1", for fx, samples and hotcues? any thoughts?

I've just stumbled over the Rane Empath BLACK, for a very good price, what do you believe?

Damn the DB4 looks good! I've also only heard good about the Allen&Heath quality!
XS2man Thanks! I definitely didn't know you could DVS with the DB4, which is something I really find important Is must agree that it's stupid that the DJM-2000 Isn't scratch certified... I've also looked at the DJM-850. I live in Denmark, and I'm going to by the mixer in a second hand store, and the only djm-850 I've found are sold with CDJ's which I'm not interested in:-/

From what i've read, the DB4 is the best mixer available, hands down. No questions asked. Bar none.

I chose to buy a DJM-850 because of the cheap price I bought it at, and because I wanted to get familiar with club-standard gear. If neither were an issue, I would've gone for the DB4 in a heartbeat.

I have a db4. Made the decision I to go for that rather than DJM 900 / 2000.

While the DJM 900 is scratch certified, and the 2000 nexus should be, there are ways round getting the db4 into a dvs set up without needing a new card.

(Excuse the mess, need a cable tidy)

Personally I am very happy with my db4. And would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a high end mixer.

Why not get a DJM 900? Traktor certified and I own a 1600 but if the price were the same i'd have the 900!

Get the Xone DB4 it's the best mixer on the market. You won't regret it

The faders feel much nicer on the Z2.

DJM 2000 Nexus, I believe that's scratch certified . And personally as an old S4 owner, the Z2... it's like ehhh. I haven't used one, but I FEEL like it's an S4 without the platters.
Hipolito Scionti
15.12.2012
You not feeling the z2? I must say its kind of tickling my fancy. I wanted a djm 900 but the price and reviews I've seen of the z2 look pretty win

I would have a hard time picking between the 1600 and 4d. I'd probably end up with the 4d for the filters and huge midi control possibilities
Rosario Whitington
15.12.2012
Today, I use an S4 with the 1210's and therefore don't have a SC
Hipolito Scionti
15.12.2012
Yeah, have you got a traktor cert soundcard? Still I'd take the 2000 over the denon any day of the week and just get traktor scratch sc anyway... When you play out you need the sc
Rosario Whitington
15.12.2012
That's also my biggest worry about the DJM-2000 and thats why I looked at the Xone 4D as well.
Tatum Ansaldo
16.12.2012
Well if you want to use DVS, the Denon is Traktor certified but the pioneer isn't.
Rosario Whitington
16.12.2012
It should be said, that i have two technics sl1210 mk.2 and I'm going to use the mixer with Traktor

As for now I use an S4, which I'm going to sell, to buy one of these?

I've also looked into the Xone 4D is this a better option, than the others?
