Why do you listen to ____? Posted on: 20.08.2011 by Kayce Mesia I always thought this was a fun question to ask some of my friends. This world we share is socially huge, so there's always someone with an opinion and perspective different from yours. Not just what you listen to, but why do you listen to it? Electro, dubstep, house, trance, techno, jazz, rock, hip-hop, rap, R&B, etc. Whatever it may be, whatever sub-genre it is, why do you prefer that over something else?Personally, I mostly listen to house, dubstep, trance, rock, and everything stemming from them because they make what's playing on the radio seem like shit. Don't get me wrong, I love the radio, but I lived in Sacramento, California. Almost every station played top 40. The only ones I listened to played alt. rock, jazz, or classical music. I live in the Philippines now, but stations are still playing the same stuff back home. But if you don't want to read all of that, answer these questions: 1. What do you listen to? 2. Why do you listen to that? Stay positive, polite, and constructive, people! | |

Chas Giraldez 28.08.2011 | I'm a 100% non-commercial EDM head. I mostly listen to deep house, techno and minimal, though i love certain flavors of dnb, dubstep (believe Burial and Kode9), and anything in between that floats my boat. Why am I a EDM head you ask? Well, because i grew up on it. My dad was a tribal-house/electro dj from the late 90's to the early 00's with a few shows afterward. In his peak, he headlined almost every weekend in Milwaukee. As a little guy, I grew up listening to him playing his sets and thought it was way cooler than the crap i heard on t.v., so ever since, i've just stuck to EDM and can barely name famous "normal" artists. |

Joy Rory 28.08.2011 | 1. What do you listen to? Dubstep (alot of it nowadays), D&B, Electro, (Electro, minimal/tech) House and sometimes some mainstream pop-shit. 2. Why do you listen to that? In Dubstep and D&B I mainly like the sick build ups and drops, deep basses combined with vocal influences and 140 (or 170) BPM's... I like house because it can be mixed nicely and it has a perfectly balanced sound in my opinion. And ofcourse it's the music that's played in clubs al over the world. I listen to the mainstream * because sometimes I just like the songs... hehe |

Glennis Cartin 20.08.2011 | Good topic. All DJs should be music lovers, and (in my opinion) all should listen to a wide variety of other genres (not just EDM). So what do I listen to? My iTunes is filled with lots of rock from a number of eras (with the focus being on alternative and aussie rock), along with some folk, hip-hop, metal, punk and acoustic stuff as well. Personally, I'm an album person, as I believe that listenening to an album tells you so much more about the artist and where they've come from that just their most popular single can. And my personal favourite non-EDM musician would have to be Ian Kenny, of Karnivool and Birds of Tokyo fame. He produces such melodic and soulful rock (and metal) that's simply amazing. You should check them out As for EDM, I love my prog and bangin' electro house. Cant beat it! |
