Basically what are your thoughts on the HTC Sensation vs. Samsung Galaxy S2

My current phone is a piece of sh1t and want to get a decent media device. I like the android OS and marketplace, thats why an iPhone isnt on the list.

Cheers guys, Im not the most tech savvy with phones and I know some people on this board will be absolute geniuses in the area.

Also to make this DJ related; has anyone had success using midi android apps for controlling their software, would be a cool little trick to mess around with.

Thanks

Galaxy s2 is a pretty awesome handset, have you considered motorola atrix ?

Miui or overcome roms are the way forwards believe you have to root your device though which causes warrenty issues .

Gingerbread or MIUI Bunford?

I went with the SGSII in the end folks and one week on all I can say is thing is a machine. Like seriously 100% customizable, fuckton of RAM, beautiful screen.

Video and sound quality are superb. 12 GB built in memory, plus you can add another SD card for music and game ROMs or whatever.

Android apps are amazing. Getting MP3s and videos for free is great.

There was a small problem with the wifi that I had to iron out but that was more the router settings, the wifi signal is great but you may need to tinker with your box.

But yeah, seriously recommend this phone to anybody in the market for one.

Apple have just won a court injunction blocking the sale of the Galaxy S2 and a load of other Samgsung smart phones in a selection of north European countries. Ireland falls under this banner and basically after October I wont be able to purchase this phone in my country.

Could this effect support from mobile phone networks here?

Also this is proof Apple are a shower of wankers; a competitor emerges, prevent them from being able to sell their rival product.

I've had some issues with my phone...Actually, some is a light word. I'm on my 4th Galaxy S phone, and it's been hell. I have an iPad 2, owned an iPad 1, but do NOT own a Mac. I try and stay as unbiased as possible when it comes to stuff like this, but I can't say I have ever had an issue with an iDevice. My fiance, mother, grandfather, and coworkers have them - no issues. I mean, that's not to say they are void of problems, but they are less frequent.

The iOS is buttery smooth on my iPad. Froyo on my Android phone is a bit better than it used to be, but it still hangs up often and requires restarts every day or two. I may be jaded from my personal issues, but at the same time, I don't care about super personalization like Android users brag about. I just want a device that works for my use.

So! You may still not want to go with iOS, which is totally legit. If you've had success up to now with Android and see no reason to stick with it, by all means, do so! I imagine iOS has more DJ and music related apps (I have a boat load on my iPad, including a monome, synths, pad controllers, etc), but I believe Android is catching up.

In terms of what to go with, part of that is provider based. I THINK Verizon offers a larger, more powerful range of Android devices. AT&T prides themselves over the iPhone, which is great for them, but not so great for those looking to go outside of that market. I mean, when you go into the store, every salesperson wants to sell you an iPhone. Cnet has proven me successful when looking up new tech reviews, so maybe browse there with new releases.

Also watch for the new Motorola/Google merge phones - I imagine they will be significantly more powerful and efficient than what's available currently! I imagine that they intend to design a phone to work with the OS (like the iPhone was designed to work with iOS), as opposed to designing a phone and making the OS work on it...If you know what I mean. :P Keep an eye on that.

Really, decide what you want to use your phone for (what happened to the days of making calls and sending occasional texts?!). As long as the apps you want are on the Android marketplace, hunt down the phone that suits your price, aesthetic, and overall feel.

Hope that helps (some)!

I have a D3.. I love apple, but when it comes to phones I go with android..

I have an iPod.. but still with the D3 I can add up to 32GB to the already 16GB it comes with.. Doubletwist, is basically iTunes. D3s are dual core.
Its like having a computer + phone as oppose to an iPod + phone!

I'm not too familiar about the phones you mentioned..
I could be totally wrong but if I remember correctly rumor has it that HTCs, I'm not totally sure about Samsungs, will be seeing less support from android now that google has bought android. Not to sure why or how, or if thats even right.. might want to look into it tho.

Yes, I knew this thread would turn into a 'apple vs. [insertcompetitorhere]' debate but I really hate the apple appstore plus I want my phone and music player as seperate devices. iPhone would be a waste.

Plus iPhones being unibody means you cant change batteries or SD cards meaning as soon as some component goes it has to be sent away to be repaired. yeah, iPhones annoy me.

This talk of gingerbread and MIUI is double dutch to me. These are operating systems I presume? Are they better at functioning or just more aesthetic to navigate? Also can they be implemented with no hastle? - if you jailbreak an iPhone your warranty is fucked as far as I understand

More of an iPhone person myself, but I've heard some good things about the HTC sensation. The design isn't my thing though, the Samsung S2 looks better. My sister had some bad experiences with two early Samsung android phones. Regular crashes. But that was the early days, I guess.
Edit: I believe the Sensation does run Gingerbread as well, but not sure.
If I had to choose, I'd probably browse around the net and check which company has the better track record as far as support and updates are concerned.
