iCloud, Dropbox, Something Else? Posted on: 13.11.2011 by Alexandra Nerby I am new to the Apple family, except for my iphone, and just picked up an iPad 2 yesterday.I love it so far and would like to have my school documents, work documents and music be available on it. I am researching iCloud, but it seems that all the files are "downloaded" onto the ipad wirelessly...correct? On the other hand, there is dropbox, where the file stay on my computer, but never "download" onto the ipad, but are still available via their app. I would like something similar to dropbox, or am I completely incorrect about iCloud? I do not like the idea of having everything downloaded. I just want the files available that are kept on my PC, to be available on the ipad but without using up my space...no downloading... Am I crazy? Is this basically what dropbox does? Is there something else available that offers more space? | |

Alexandra Nerby 13.11.2011 | Thank mate. I have the Wifi version, so yeah, no 3g anyway. I like the library sharing in iTunes a lot too...is there something similar to this for the documents as well? It's so simple. I would ideally like to select what on my external HD I would like to share. It would be sweet if I want my podcast folder to be available on my iPad, and not have to drag and drop everytime like on dropbox.... |
Veda Zarella 13.11.2011 | As for the documents and photos etc. , basically anyting that isn't music, i would recommend Dropbox. I find it amazin. However you only get 2GB for free. I don't like the "music player" in Dropbox a lot. I would just use iTunes "share your library" function which basically allows you to play any song in your laptop's libraby on your iPad via Wifi. This won't work on 3G though I believe. Hope that helps a little |
