Rack mount mixer

Rack mount mixer

I need some help selecting a good rackmount mixer for my new slant top SKB case.

I have been using a Behringer PMP 3000 and am for the most part happy with it but I can detect some fidelity issues. I like the features, I just notice a jump in volume and a change in sound when I reach peak. Note: I have been using the board passively even though it has an amp in it. I would like to retire it and use it strictly as a backup and small gig board.

I just got a Gemini off of another DJ for a hundred dollars. I can't seem to eliminate a buzz and either it's bad cables or a bad mixer. Haven't bothered swapping cables yet.

I just believe I need a real mixer but am not sure what my price range is. A local DJ/ sound and lighting rental/retailer has a "Brand New" Phoenix 16ch rack mount mixer that was mounted in a case for "display purposes only" "back when he had a show room". He wants $425 for it and the only information I can find on it is that it retails for $599 or $699. I forget which. I found one in a pawn shop that they wanted $200 for but it had 12 dirty pots and 4 broken pots.

I don't know what to get. I really wanted to get the alesis 12 channel mixer from musicians friend. It's less than $300 and got some great features. I was researching it and I heard there is a manufacturing issue where a component inside breaks off it's mounting under a minor impact such as those gear encounters when being shipped. The reviewer claims to have gotten a few DOA mixers.

Phoenix is supposedly a company that split off of soundcraft and made good quality and then disappeared. According to the man selling me it.

I have 10 rack spaces. I need to be able to mix 2 karaoke players, 2 turntables(have their own mixer) two laptops (have their own mixer) and 2 wireless mics and two wired mics. The microphones are where I run into trouble. I don't want a 1/4 inch mic input I want xlr

What's your budget and how much rack space do you have? A lot of full size mixers have rack mount adapters, I know the xone 92 comes with them and they have them for the DJM-800 too (not sure if they come with them).

If you want a real rack only mixer that's tough since the only ones I am familiar with are pretty pricey (Xone v6, Xone S2, Rane 2016). I'm sure there are some good vestax options that are more reasonable.

A&H S2 if you really want quality perhaps a PIONEER DJM 5000 ... you should be able to pick one either one second hand for around $500 or new for around $800-850

If your budget doesn't stretch that far, perhaps a Behringer DX2000 or NOX 1010 @ around $350 brand new.

Numark C3 , Denon X500 are pretty respectable too @ under $400

Depends if you want a DJ mixer or a "live" mixer, do you really need 16 channels ? ... in general the more inputs @ lower cost = crappier sound.

A second hand Formula Sound PM90 would be a nice buy and around the same price as the Behringer, but sound quality on par with the A&H

If you can't find more information about "Phoenix" mixers I'd stay away go with something that has a name and support.. seriously...

Maybe they are brilliant, but 16ch for that price sounds "mid range" lotta features but no-name brand (or support) and probably around the same quality as gemini.

I believe you need to provide more specifics about what you use it for.
