Reply to Drugs and Music. Is it everywhere?

First I hope this discussion doesn't break the rules but I really want to ask a wide audience this.

Now I want to put this straight out there as I am going to come off a little biased as it is. I have never tried any drugs other than marijuana and that was once. It wasn't for me as I'm naturally a bubbly and fun person and it just made me bored and lazy. So other than that I have never tried a cigarette or anything else. My reason being is I don't like not being in complete control. I also don't drink enough to get drunk because of this. It's not like I have ever had a bad experience but it's just not me.

However I don't judge people that do any of these things. It's your life and you live it how you want so long as you are aware of any consequences that come with it and it doesn't effect me in anyway. I have friends that do MDMA and they know that if they are having a evening out with me then I don't want them doing it as that's not the person I want them to be when I am out wanting to have a good time with them.

Now to the point...

A year ago I started a music course at a music specific establishment. I love it and I'm hoping to stay on another 2 years to do ta Fda in Music & Sound Technology. When I first started it was quite a mixed group of people from different backgrounds and ages. They all smoked and while the older ones joked about the drugs they did when they were younger there was no talk of taking any now.

I'm in my second year now and switched groups to better suit me for travel reasons. There are 16 people in the group and the average age is probably about 19. The youngest being 17. They all smoke. I am the only one that doesn't. So it's a bit gutting that everyone goes for a smoke break and I kind of don't fit in with that social aspect of chatting away. That's my problem though.

But when I do chat they are all talking about ketamine, MDMA, Acid. I could go on but I don't actually know the names or have a clue when it comes to drugs so I won't embarrass myself. Some of them are DJs or just clubbers. I get that some people would do it but it seems like the whole class. Is it becoming more of a normal thing now? Has it always? I'm only 23 and I'm not a party animal so it might be something that has been oblivious to me.

I'm not asking for you to say you partake in them but more your views on the scene and drugs. I would just like a little insight into it.

tl;dr: Lots of people do drugs in the music scene. What's your take on it?
