RANT: people and their prices for used equipment

RANT: people and their prices for used equipment

i'm in the market for a new mixer...i found a denon dnx-120 and dude is asking 180 for it...i found it new for 159.99 with free shipping...

i've seen this alot lately that people have a high opinion of their used gear and are asking stupid prices for it...and then get defensive and pissy when you bring it to their attention...

whats fair? 60-70 percent of lowest retail?

Yeah- sure is! Advertised at price knowing full well it will never get a buyer...
Look at this way; they'll never make more 1200's. Women, on the other hand...

Or if you really want to screw with their head you lowball them from two alternate emails/identities over several days and then proceed to negotiate a deal with them, then when he believes he is still coming out ahead you arrange a fake meeting with the second identity where said second identity using a google voice phone number then proceeds to stand them up. Optionally you can tie this into messing with ticket scammers on craigslist and have the two meet each other (bonus if you get as many scammers as possible looking for each other and they have each other's pictures believeing they are really looking for you). If you have a friend who has nothing better to do this can be even more entertaining. Then a day later after they are so fed up with getting jerked around on craigslist they re-list it for a more reasonable price and you make them a fair offer and get the item you want for what it's worth. No big deal.

Good luck to 'em i say, just because you are clued up on the price dont mean that some fool that can be easily parted from his money aint gonna rock up.

Dont get mad with the seller and fire off emails with links to cheaper gear, just buy the cheaper gear in the first place and save your blood pressure.
If the guy doesnt sell his overpiced gear thats his lookout not yours.

Just experienced this from a guy on here, I informed him that a new mixer went for the same price as the used one he had, he told me to buy a new one then... so I did

I laugh my ass off when people get emotionally invested in business transactions.

Id say no more the ~75% for great condition used gear , I have a friend trying to sell an X1 with a bag for $250 (Canadian) and a local store will sell the same bundle new for $270. Almost everything used in my area is overpriced and has been for sale for many months before they sell to some sucker...

Exactly. Most of these people will stand you up or create some bullshit excuse why they can't meet you. I never really put too much faith in craigslist. You can get some killer deals, but you gotta deal with some weird people.

For example. I got my stanton t-60's for like 80 bucks. For both of them, with the case. After searching around for a while and dealing with a bunch of bull, i finally found a good deal. After we negotiated.

i'm sure some vintage stuff does fetch a fair penny...

dude just "dropped" his price to 150... <shakeshead>

elsewhere is probaby my best bet...

People get really defensive with their gear . Whats interesting to remember is that most of these people believe that their gear is like fucking perfect and they can sell it for retail price.

You have to remember that both of you guys are looking for a deal here. He's trying the get the most he can, your trying to get the cheapest.

Be negotiable. You gotta prod him to get the best price.
