Lol-ing at your first productions

We all had to start somewhere. And I'm willing to bet a lot of you have some terrible first productions somewhere on your HD that your embarrassed of. So let's hear 'em! This isn't meant to talk to trash. It's supposed to be funny. If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?

My first "real" production was a remix of a remix of the song "Calbria" (or however it's spelled). Notice the use of default FL drum samples and incorrect hits of claps/snares. LOL.

(Note that I used the artist name "Lammy" because that's what my friends used to call me in high school... and still do actually).

I really thought I was going to be the next great dj. lol.

haha thanks dude, I never thought of it thataway... maybe I should go for something like that, funky house isn't something I'm very used to

This is the second track I did, also about 2001. Messing around with orchestral sounds. I didnt believe the arrangement was terrible at the time.

When I started FL didn't even exist... not even virtual synths. Computers didn't have much power then... I believe the first computer I used for production was a pentium II 120Mhz....

I started with fasttracker, using only samples I "borrowed" from other tracker songs... then I started even getting samples from audio cds, and then after 3 years I quit music production because without real expensive synths I was getting nowhere and started djing.

I'd love to show you some bad stuff from the first years... but unfortunately much was lost, the rest is in Mallorca (Spain), and I'm in Mexico right now.

Man digging this stuff out is a flashback. Here is the first track I did that was an actual song. Done with the original FL. Man it sounds like its in the mud.

I agree with 6string, just getting something finished was a painfully long process at first.

Edit: hmmm, never used SC before. Must have posted it up wrong.... There we go.

haha I wish I had mine too! I fooled around in FL Studio years ago but the files are all gone now and the audio CDs as well. I made myself 80-min LPs... there was a lot of material. all of it terrible!

Listened to everything posted, glad to hear them too. Could tell a similar feeling when I was new. Dunno about you, but just finishing was a great achievement...rough spots be damned.

...crud, had to delete the tracks based on getting some audience traffic soon. Don't need them clicking those by mistake

lol great thread idea some interesting tracks here already

here is my first one i made last year with Garageband. It could be worse but you can definitely hear the stock loops which are blatantly obvious and make me shake my head. But for a first effort i was quite happy :P http://rapidshare.com/files/35446578...ll__remix_.mp3

Check the myspace link at the bottom for some later tracks from that year. Its still Garageband only stuff but also infinitely better and the buildups are totally dance worthy.

I'm going to invest in Abelton Suite and a MIDI controller soon I believe and just go nuts since Garageband has pretty much maxed out its usefulness to me, but still funny to see where i started out.

I am going to dig out the old hard drives from the early 90s.

The first production I did was with wav editor and recorder on a PC. Didn't know crap about gear(still don't know much).

I used to get CDs load tracks up in the wav editor.
Cut out the loops I wanted, and samples.
Record a new wav, and hand fire the loops and samples.

Because of memory and hd limitations, you had to keep deleting excess piece that you weren't using at the time to keep the system from crashing, even if you might plan to use them again.

Do this like 40-50 times to make one 5-6 minute track, that sucked.

Good times.

Well I am about to finish an EP in the studio with a friend, but for my own hand made stuff I have had Ableton about 5 weeks, and oddly enough been playing around with a tune in my head, which i am making, will stick that up on soundcloud so you can have a giggle at it lol!
