Developing good Leveling and Mixing technique

I feel that I have some very basic understandings of how to mix a song and how to level and EQ, but I can't really seem to be able to approach my songs in a decent way when it comes to mixing high quality and I feel like I really need some heads up to how I can develop myself in mixing.

If you use "complete rookie" as a starting point for what you would suggest me, what are some good mixing exercises that would help me get a better grip on how to mix IDM? I know there's an enormous difference between how to mix genres, but hopeful somewhere there must be some fundamentals I can learn before I try to "mix genres".

Production. Using the eq quide Dennis posted really helped.

Is there a way to differ between what purpose the mixing is for? As in, if its dj or producing? Or do you just say producer mixing and dj mixing if you have to make the difference clear?

i usually have a channel for every element in my track. (kick, snares, claps etc.)
then i follow this eq guide here (http://www.futuremusic.co.uk/resourc...bmix_dsktp.jpg) and then i start to change the volumes of the specific channels until everything sounds nice in my headphones and on my speakers. : ]

im sure there would be better ressource(or better reply) to start with but mainly develop your ears , sence of rhythm and listen to alot of sets from dj to learn there tricks thats how i started(started clubbing at 16 :P). I know there some youtube channel for beginner like dj tutor ( ellaskins ) and i like his phylosophy " Pratice and Enjoy " dont be worried about mistake its part of the learning process ...we all must start somewhere
