Studio Monitors - M-Audio BX8A
Studio Monitors - M-Audio BX8A Posted on: 22.06.2010 by Jovita Ockert I am looking for a good pair of Studio Monitors that will be under $500 CAD. I have looked around and have been hearing that "M-Audio BX8A Studio Monitors" are the way to go. I am only into Electronic music (house, trance, etc.). If you have experience with this stuff and can give me your advise/input I would really appreciate it.Also, I am getting into producing my own music and this is namely the reason why I want to get a set of monitors - good idea? Cheers! | |

Marcel Ei Gio 22.06.2010 | yeah, if you want to produce dance music, you need to get the 8" woofers. i have a friend who helped guide me when i bought my bx8as who has been producing and mastering for like the last 10 years. i absolutely needed a pair of monitors (i blew the amp on my passive set) and i didnt have too much money to spend, he recommended them on the basis that when i get more money and a bit more serious (im only able to produce like 1 day a week because of my day job) that i pick up a higher quality. but the 8" woofers are a must. all of that said, i do like mine. they are a bit heavy on the bass, so keep that in mind. but with proper soundproofing i believe that most of that can be taken out fairly easily. high end is crisp, not too piercing. on the downside... i bought mine in january, at the end of march the power switch on one of them died and i had to send them for warranty repairs. luckly, the vendor i bought them from handled it all, but it was like 3 weeks repair time. |
Gaston Reiker 22.06.2010 | I own the bx8a's I really believe they are fuckin awesome. I've had numerous pairs of monitors. Mostly passive speakers. My roommate has the rockit krk8 and I believe they may better. They're designed better with the rounded corners to deflect frequencies and the front bass ports that are designed to hit your ears before it reflects off anything else but the bx8a's are just as clean. It's true they do have a bit more bass response but it works well with producing heavy bass tracks as they don't allow you to over correct the bass. It's a more true sound if you ask me if you're making club tracks as the sound in clubs carry a lot more bass anyway. Don't let that scare you they are very accurate monitors. They sound as good as they feel when you hold them. Big and heavy. I would seriously stay away from ANY 5 or 6" speakers. Even the difference between the rockit 5's and the smaller m-audio monitors compared to any 8 inch speakers simply can't match because they really do not and cannot translate low end whatsoever simply because of the fact they are too small..... For your budget the bx8's or the rockit 8's are serious speakers to work with. Especially if you get a matching sub. You don't need $2,000 speakrs to make big clean sound. http://www.soundcloud.com/glibmusic http://www.soundcloud.com/unspotted all done on the bx8a's. Any feedback would be welcomed. |
Marybeth Escandon 21.06.2010 | I'd personally recommend you stay well from M-Audio when you want quality. They are generally unbeatable when it comes to cheap starter setups but since you buy studio monitors for accurate sound replication without coloring, I'd look elsewhere. I've used a lot of M-Audio gear, from their keyboards to sound cards and I've never been impressed. My suggestion would be to pick up a cheap pair of KRK Rokit 5's or 6's. These sound amazing for the price and should hold you over until your gearlust has you spending $2K+ a speaker If you're ordering in Canada, I suggest Moog Audio. Here's the KRK's for $389: http://www.moogaudio.com/krk-rp5-g2-pair-p-1502.html Good luck with whatever you choose. |
Andres Destrampe 21.06.2010 | it all depends on what you are looking to do with the monitors.. I own the bx8a's and LOVE them. great for djing (most of what i do) and not bad for producing. They are a bit low end heavy, which is great for mixing and for my electronic producing, I just wouldnt try to master any final projects without testing on studio quality headphone and/or another pair of monitors. also check around for prices online before you buy them. I got a price match from novamusik.com that saved me a bunch of money!! |
