Small home production studio
Posted on: 09.01.2011 by Robin Pagen
I need to add some gear to the home studio. So I've gone through a number of production studio threads on here through the last month but I just need some specifics for my situation.

I have the following:
Jbl Lsr#### monitors
Akai APC40
Akai LPK25
Macbook pro w/ Live8 & Logic9

I plan on getting these items:
-Midi controller: I feel like the LPK25 is a bit too basic for producing so I need something a little more advanced. Should I get the MPK25 or m-audio oxygen 49?

-Audio interface: when you guys recommend the Fast track pro, is it this one? http://www.guitarcenter.com/M-Audio-...67-i1474272.gc

Thanks for any and all help!

I have heard some funny things about the mpk-25 and that it is not built up to snuff. I personally bought an mpk-49 keyboard from akai and am very happy with it. Some people have had some bad things to say about the bads but all you need to do is change the velocity and some other settings physically on the device and it will pick up all the hits to the pads. This maps VERY nicely with ableton and I really like that is has 8 fades AND 8 knobs that you can map completely any way you want basically but the defaults have the right 3 at ADR. The mpk-49 makes it very easy to break down songs and completely change them around and make your own samples. I was VERY close to getting the mpk-25 but i bit the bullet and waited and got the 49 and I absolutely love having the extra keys to be able to work with and having more pads. In this business going cheap really doesnt help I will say that. Many people have mad mistakes with this but also deff have an external sound card and midi cable and latency is cut back! Hope I helped a little bit, any questions specifically just post.
