Reply to synth theory

anyone know of any good resources for learning more about what is actually going on in a synth and how each component influences the sound? i'm starting to get into production, but have been getting hung up on the fact that i don't know much about sound design, so i'm just spending too much time fiddling with the synth and still not getting the results i want.
