Noob Here, Help!

Hi all, noob here.

Looking to construct a studio, I want a real simple studio setup, less things the better. I currently have an axiom 25, launchpad, x1 and midi-fighter.

No main software. I want to produce trance, prog house, edm stuff. Do I need velocity sensitive pads? Am I missing any other hardware? Is what I have good enough or should I get rid of some things and get something else?

What's the easiest way to get my hands straight into producing? Is it Maschine? I want to do reconstructions and re-edits or a remix like how markus schulz does it, what's a good software or hardware to use?

Apologize in advance for my noobiness and thanks!

For someone who is taking the less-is-more approach, you sure have a lot of gear for someone who doesn't even have a DAW.

Imo you don't need velocity sensitive pads. I have a controller with velocity sensitive pads and I always disable the sensitivity. If I want my drum samples to have different volumes, I'll do that manually later on, which is more precise.

Learn your software, get accustomed to your hardware, and above all really invest time and energy into it. No matter how much gear you have, or what software you have, songs don't write themselves.

(Also, like fullenglishprint said, please don't PM me, respond publicly for the good of the community)

Good luck!

OP, you have a valid question, but can I ask why you're doing all your follow up and indeed some separate question asking by PM? This is a public community , the whole point is that people ask questions, they get answered and others can see the answers if they have the same problem. Doing everything by PM defeats the point.

I can't really off you much advice because I have very little production experience, but I'm sure many people here can if you just use this thread rather than spamming everyone's inboxes.

Welcome to the community btw.

Velocity sensitive keyboards are nice but I don't believe you need them for the productions you wrote about. My guess that you could go far with Ableton Live even if me believes Logic + NI Komplete gives a massive amount that you could explore for the next 20 years.

We have a 49note midi controller, logic pro, vanguard, nexus2, a virus indigo 2 and some speakers. We also have about 10 years worth of loop, hit and various sample libraries we've collected.

You don't need 90 controllers to make tunes.

Try and spend your money on quality synths such as massive, sylenth1, z3ta and some effects vst or you can break your bank and buy some minimoog stuff.

You don't need expensive gear to make music and btw you have a launchpad and obviously you require ableton so you can remix quite easily by making your own loops and then layer it, creating endless of possibilites.

You dont need velocity sensitive pads as your not making hip hop/rap and the NI Maschine is the usual MPD but with better software integration and able to handle audio from decks.
