help on what to learn next
Posted on: 03.09.2011 by Matha Mearkle
Hi Guys

It's 4 months since I started producing. My first 3 tracks all happened in those 1st 2 months. This last one is released on the back of 2 months of studying up, looking into eq'ing, modulation, synthesis and compression.

A lot of that time was spent on this board!

anyway, any suggestions on where to next?

for a peek at where i'm at, skip over to http://www.djranking s.com/community /sho...810#post343810

thanks in advance!

for sure, i'm sure my knowledge in the areas i looked into can still grow, and will with more experimentation. i was just wondering what other areas i should look into...

push every button in your daw and your gear, you might break something but at least you will know what it does

Just throwing this out there: even if you continue to work on what you already know how to do, you are still learning. I don't know about anyone else, but even when I do things I'm already familiar with, I always seem to figure out something new.

What seitz said pretty much sums it up. Don't make a laundry list of things to learn like this is a class you're taking. Just get in there, start doing and you'll learn as you go. Don't be afraid to experiment with stuff just to see what it does. Just get in there and do it

best way to learn is to just do....honestly ive been forcing myself to do AT LEAST 1 song per week or one idea per week to learn stuff and get it sounding how i like...also youtube tutorials are helpfull i find when it comes to synths...

now after looking at your stuff

id work on the overall mix downs...it seems like things are weird volumes or muddled (especially the kick) while other things blatantly stand up (the clicks).

might just be me but i found the song kinda repetative...if your going to go for like this tech house type of feel make sure elements get added or stuff change in an interesting way...believe in terms of melody and hook in this aspect...whats something that will stick in a persons mind and they'll keep huming later even when not listening to the song
