Track sounds finished?
Posted on: 05.10.2011 by Detra Girardier
So i've been working on this track for the last couple of weeks. It feels pretty much finished and ready to be sent off to mastering, but i'm not sure.

What do you guys believe? Is there anything missing? Or is it too much? Does it sound 'off'?

Please help me with this one

Thanks for your feedback.

The kick lacking drive could be blamed on Soundcloud messing up the sound. Check the mp3 version out, does it still lack according to you? Remember that it still has to be mastered, so it will get a bit more defined lows as well .

Cheers mate. In terms of mixing i agree with TWD, we've got to be able to produce "for the room". in terms of music construction ( and this is just my opinion) i believe that a more pronounced lead synth with a precise design and behavior would make some magic.

Now that's some decent commenting right there! Thank you TWD! I will get on this as soon as i get home, see what i can do to make some of your advised changes happen.

You're right about the headphone thing, as this whole track was produced using only a set of cans . Got some decent monitors in this week though, so should be able to make some changes now.

Thanks again man, i'll make sure to put the next version up here as well.

Yeah I wouldn't worry so much about the bass. It has plenty of punch once you put some compression on it. I would go back and look at levels and stereo first. There are some drums in there that are just too loud. I also believe the pads might need to be toned down a bit. On the stereo side you just have too much of it. It sounds great on headphones, but it will be weak elsewhere. Get rid of any stereo in the low end, and use mid/side processing on the other parts

Here's a quick master I did in about 5 minutes that should help show you what changes you might want to make:

Think it sounds solid mate, not much more you can do at this point mixdown wise I'd say. Send it out and see how it comes back.

And I don't know about you guys, but the kick/lowend sounds solid on my end.
