Question on Kick Production
Posted on: 26.10.2011 by Stephaine Hains
Do most professional producers design their own kicks using sin waves in synths, or do they generally use sample packs and layer the higher kick with a subby kick. I'm sure both are possible but what would you guys recommend, also what note is usually used for the low end kick and the high frequency kick if your going to make your own?

Thanks for any help guys

EDIT:

This higher frequency kick is what I'm looking for, if you can tell me how to make it or what sample pack to find it in that would much appreciated. It's the one right at the beginning (too hard to sample/filter out of there)

Sample, although it does help if you know how to make them.

I just thought about this more too

You should just sample this kick.

Grab the kick. cut the whole tail off it so you loose the chicks voice. find another kick that sounds similar and layer it with the head cut off.

then you could had a sine wave to give it a bit more in the low end

I bet most sample their kicks.

over on the laidback luke community (which can be really helpful) all those guys say to sample including him. And if you watch the avicii interview on future music He only samples kicks (says he isnt good enough to make them)
Avicii uses two different kicks in his tracks. one for the intro/breakdown and the other for the main

I believe a lot of sample packs are split into hard and soft kicks too.
to remake that kick i bet you will have to layer, maybe cut the tail, eq, filter etc.
