Help with Porter Robinson Bass?
Posted on: 25.12.2011 by Tatum Untiedt
Having trouble achieving something similar to the style of bass that Porter Robinson uses in his Seek Bromance remix. It can be heard extremely isolated in the outro of the track starting at about 6:20.

The specific parts that are troubling me are the grit/crunch and almost unclean sound of it. At the same time it has a huge punch and presence to it as well. Any help recreating something like this would be greatly appreciated.

Had been on the verge of buying it for the past few months and literally just bought it right before you posted that, only heard good things about it

I'm not sure exactly what the hell Sausage Fattener does (compression & distortion + magic?) but I kind of fell a little bit in love with it. And it's cheap.

Just google ' free distortion plugins'

...That is basically what Amp does...adds distortion and drive.

So you can stack a distortion plugin with another plugin that adds drive

100% agree with you, not at all planning on taking that same sound and using it. However, it is extremely useful to know what elements are giving that sound its qualities.

On a side note, does anyone happen to know a solid alternative to abletons amp plugin? I've seen videos and really like the effects it gives to sounds but I didn't purchase the full version of ableton that includes it.

Hey bro.

I'm a big porter robinson fan, and zedd and all them cats.

That bassline though....i'm guessing he's got like a set stack of fx that he stacks on a bassline he has already. That and he may layer a few different basslines on top of each other to give it that real presence and full ness.

I wouldnt say try and recreate that sound, soo many are doing it; porter, zedd, lazy rich, try and make your own.

On the bassline I made for my latest track i'm doing... I stacked a compressor, EQ, Upstereo, another compressor for side chain, overdrive and an Ableton's Amp plugin on top of a bassline i made in Razor and then routed that to a bus with a limiter, multiband compressor, saturator and Dada Life's Sausage fattener plugin.....Now that sounds like alot but you get some sick sounds when you really build up a sound from scratch, plus its your own and nobody can turn round and say 'oh you copied so and so'.

Here is the track if you wana hear what that sounds like

My track is unmastered by the by, in fact that link is a private one as I am jus uploading it for a few friends to hear, but hey i'm feeling generous

Any way man, stacking, thats whats up, you know?
