Reply to If you had to pick one type of mastering plug in to start what would it be?

So I am going to learn the art of mastering, slowly. I am going to start with one type of mastering plug in. What type should I start with?

EQ?
Compressor?
other?

my gut says learn EQ first but what sayeth the community ?

The goal is over time to have a collection of mastering plug ins so I can master my own tracks, or other producers tracks.
