Logic Pro X, worth it?
Posted on: 03.11.2013 by Tobias Merrills
So i am debating the upgrade to Logic Pro X. However i am curious what other producers believe about it as well?
Any bugs? Problems with 64 bit support only? New drum sequencer any good?
Thanks!

I saw that too. I really gotta spend more time with drummer. I didnt realize that you could export the notes to midi. That adds a whole other dimension to what it can do. I did this quick track where I layered drummer and ultrabeat just to play around a bit. https://soundcloud.com/subdo/bad-man

I just lost some really good plugs and I'm not really wanting to mess with 3rd party bridges (although they do exist). I like the layout better once they fixed the problem with it not fitting on a 13" screen. Full screen is great. Smart snap is a little less annoying than it used to be. The whole midi plugin concept is really cool. I wish there was a full featured step sequencer but the repeater and arpeggiator are really fun to play with. I found the new retrosynth pretty underwhelming but I'm also spoiled by a bunch of real analog gear. The drummer is a little goofy but is implemented well when you get passed the cheesy bios and all that. A lot of the "drummers" are clearly targeted at pop/rock but there is a funk drummer that you can tweak to get some great grooves.

I can only really echo what else has been said already, the non 32 plugin side of things is a bit sucky, but like has been mentioned, there are some 3rd party bridges but again, I am not keen on the idea of messing with these.

I like the new layout and colour scheme, and some of the new toys that are in there (I also wish there was a step sequencer in there too).

The drummer is pretty cool though, nice work Nick V; thats cookin'!

Thats friggin groovy, but the non 32 bit support scares me....If nothing is really to ground braking different i might just save that money for an analog synth and keep my 32 bit plugins.

Overall I believe it's a really nice upgrade, though nothing earth shattering. A few more specific thoughts on the new features here:
