Reply to VCI not working after upgrade

After a couple hours, I finally completed the upgrade of the new firmware 1.3, or so I thought. I connected my VCI to my laptop and noticed there was not the usual noise the laptop makes when it recognizes hardware connected to a USB port. Then, I pressed a few buttons and turned the jog wheels, but absolutely no lights, no signal from the Data Send LED, no power indication.

I used the correct serial cable and followed the directions. I even tried everything again and still nothing, no power after the completion. I have not seen this problem occur in previous threads. Not sure if this is supposed to occur, upon completing the firmware download, the Renesas Flashware, displays the message "Completed" before it closed itself. I'm not sure it is supposed to close itself immediately upon completion, but that is what happened. Afterward I unplugged the USB, then the firmware kit, and replaced the harness cable and gently assembled everything together again. Still no power.

Does anyone have any idea how I get my VCI working again? Thanks.

Here is what I used:
XP from my old desktop
9 pin serial cable (male to female)
Powered by the desktop USB, was not working when powered by my laptop.
