MF Deckalized+Instant Grat Mapping

After a lot of requests and a long wait (sorry for it being so long) I finally got around to combining the original Deckalized mapping with the original Instant Gratification mapping for Traktor Pro.

The main reason I want to release this is that the new "Deckalized+IG" mappings (for the MF Pros) have changed the core effects layouts and there were a lot of people that just wanted a combination of the original Deckalized and IGs (which most people are now familiar with), which this pretty much is.

So far I only have one mapping of this type done (in Deckalized fashion where each deck associates with one MF) but I plan on finishing up Focus versions soon.

The one thing you will want to pay attention to is that the "Sampler" uses the Slicer single effect in FX3 and all of the combos use Grouped effects in FX3. So, when you are switching back and forth between FX types Traktor won't activate the effect initially. In those cases, you just need to do it once to switch the fx types and selections and then it will work as expected.

Also, in order to use the combos you need to have updated Midi Fighter firmware. Just try the Beatmasher one (all 4 mash buttons held down) and if that doesn't work, you probably need to update your firmware.

Lastly, I changed Combo4 because honestly, it wasn't that cool before and I like what I changed it to better now.

Re-import the mapping. The FX settings often take two imports to load correctly. Then the MF should switch to the correct FX when pushing a button.

In my experience the "Sampler" (aka the Slicer function) will not cleanly grab a loop if the track's tempo is incorrect and/or the track's beatgrid is not set properly. I would test this over a lot of your different tracks to see if some work and others don't and then you'll get an idea of which of your tracks need tweaking.

Thanks for the kinds words and for your feedback regarding your need for more Cue Point juggling. I assume you want to be able to quickly and easily control Cue Points from multiple decks simultaneously? Otherwise I would figure that the Juggle mode in this mapping would appease your needs.

04.04.2012		Along with the beatmasher combo inconsistency (which I'm also experiencing), is anyone else having issues with the two gaters? I sometimes rhythmically switch between both gaters, but it's not quite as responsive as the IG mapping. Almost every time I get in a 'rhythm' with the two, they becomes unresponsive until I stop for a second and hit it a button again. In every case, I can see the gater level changing with the MF buttons but it's no longer activating the effect (i.e. the button/light under the encoder in traktor). Any thoughts?

12.03.2012		Does anyone else have issues initiating the beatmasher super combo? I get it to work after doing it a couple of times, but it's pretty inconsistent.

02.03.2012		What I find ironic is that the IG + Deckalized mapping has barely any buggs compared to the original deckalized mapping. For instance: loop LED's won't show on your second MF and when you import the mapping (with the big button of course!), the filter-lfo effect keeps getting loaded instead of beatmasher, no matter how many times I import the mapping

Re-import the mapping. The FX settings often take two imports to load correctly. Then the MF should switch to the correct FX when pushing a button.

30.01.2012		need some help;

Last week I set up the focused + IG effect on an S4 with a single midifighter, all ok & working. I've now got two midifighters and I've loaded A+B+C+D + IG from this thread and I've made an ass of it.

Basics done-
loaded tsi twice
added default S4

Now when loading for each deck I need to check what I've done wrong;
1st
MF_A.Deckalized+ Instant graf
In Port - Midifighter classic
Out Port - Midifighter Classic

and I've tried to do the same for all 4 decks.

Problem I've got is I'm controlling deck A & C from the one controller and nothin on Decks B&D and even then the A&C combo only does effects on C.


The In / Out ports have two choices, 'midifighter classic' and 'midifighter classic...'

I'm guessing I should only have done decks A&B (and then I should have done it right)

I'm not far away here, can someone please get me over the line!

In my experience the "Sampler" (aka the Slicer function) will not cleanly grab a loop if the track's tempo is incorrect and/or the track's beatgrid is not set properly. I would test this over a lot of your different tracks to see if some work and others don't and then you'll get an idea of which of your tracks need tweaking.

Thanks for the kinds words and for your feedback regarding your need for more Cue Point juggling. I assume you want to be able to quickly and easily control Cue Points from multiple decks simultaneously? Otherwise I would figure that the Juggle mode in this mapping would appease your needs.

11.10.2011		Great mapping flashflooder. I'm just having a little bit of trouble figuring out all the combo's that are present in your mapping. I'm used to the IG 4-banks mapping and can get all the combos to work there but I'm having a bit of trouble here figuring or finding them all out.

I can get the 4 beatmasher transpose combo along with the 4 bottom row grater lofi combo to work for sure. I believe that I am also activating combo 3 (1,2,3 bmash with T3delay then f90-lfo).

You mentioned that you changed combo 4 to something else but I can't seem to activate that one at all (1,2,3 bmash then release 3 and hold 3 then 4). Is it still this combination or did you change the order? I also can't figure out the Reverse grain combo or combo 6.

I have noticed that I can't activate the bottom row effects if I am pressing down 2 or more bmash buttons so maybe that is keeping me from activating some combos.

Anyway, if anyone could tell me if those last 3 combos (especially combo 4 and the reverse grain) are still there and if so, how to activate them, it would be a great help. Thanks.

Question though:

How well does this play with an S4? I noticed that I am having some issues with efx bank assignments and not loading the proper effects. Is this purely because I don't have the right effects loaded into the effects banks in the S4 menu?

Any help would be awesome, as I love this mapping and hope to use it alongside my S4 if I can work out the kinks!

06.10.2011		Thanks alot, I had a lot of fun messing with this today. I like that it pretty much gets rid of the pitch bend stuff as I never use it as the mixer/controller does this much better.

i just got done messing with it, and it doesn't use 4 bank mode. Its basically the same as the Deckalized, but the bottom 4 buttons are effects like instant grat. unless you hold shift then the bottom 4 are pitch controls. and then the combos are in there as well

but its great! a nice step up from deckalized. lemme know if i missed anything!

Go to "global settings" section find "deck focus" and set "software" instead "hardware". Now the focus deck is orange, the others remain black.
The new Traktor SP 2.1.1 (just upgraded) seems to save this choice on exit.

20.09.2011		it's the deck whose letter is bright orange. You should notice it cycling through when you press shift+sync.

Okay, but in regards to the visual layout of this mapping that you made, how can traktor pro 2 perform a freeze effect? Didn't they remove that in pro 2?

Edit: Also, is there any way I can use this mapping for the 16 buttons and add it to a beatmasher MF pro?

absolutely LOVE it if i could have the instant grat effects instead of pitch bend (although the shift button controls would still be awesome).

08.09.2011		Hey Flashflooder, together with DJ Techtools Ive been able to sort the issues out and everything works fine now. On top of that my second MF arrived now and Id like to use the two MFs with an external mixer from now on. However there is that Loop Move function that I need. Is there a way to imply that? How much work is it? If you cant do it, could you explain to me how to map something that requires the shift button?

18.08.2011		One thing that i don't like with using the MIDI-fighter with an S4 is that the effect controls of the the s4 are out of use for me.

I would really appreciate to use the MIDI-Fighter AND at least one effect slot with the s4.

There's two things stopping me from doing that:
- The effect buttons on the s4 don't work properly anymore
(The Button for effect 1 on channel B doesn't work anymore, effect 2 on CH A or B do only work when they have Deck Focus, the buttons for deck C and D do nothing or affect effect 3 or 4 and so on...)

- The effect slots are all in use with the MIDI-fighter. (I could live with that, cause mostly I need Beatmasher, T3 Delay and Gater which are all on effect bank 1 and 2 but without the S4's effect buttons working as dedicated that might be difficult. :-)

Is there somebody else who wants to use effects in both styles, MIDI-fighter and S4?

Just discovered that it's a more easy way to change the order of the Layouts in the preferences. Seems that the Deck Focus changes between the Layouts 0 and 2....

These are not bugs. Something is clearly going wrong with your setup.

You can only trigger Loops with length 8, 4, 2, or 1 via the Shift+Mash buttons on the MF. They directly set the loop length and do not increment or decrement the length.

I believe you may be confused with how this mapping works because the "far left button in the second row" does not change the size of the loop for looping. It is used for our "Sampler" which uses the Slicer effect and sets a loop on that deck so the deck doesn't continue to play.

I tested this and I can not replicate this problem at all so I believe you either have Traktor software issues or an MF hardware/firmware issue (which doesn't much make sense to me).

I would make sure that all of the mappings you have loaded are not set to All Ports (and are set the ports of the controller they are for) or you could have controllers sending out the same MIDI data which could cause confusing functions like this.

I would also make sure that you are using an updated version of Traktor Pro. In some older versions you could manually change the Focus with your mouse which could lead to inconsistencies if you were changing Deck Focus with both the MF and the mouse.
