inno fader mini and scratching
inno fader mini and scratching Posted on: 15.10.2012 by Ada Matzkin anyone have a link to someone cutting with an innofader mini? and i mean someone competent please :P (id like to at least see smooth 2 clickers and super fast chirps and not some dude on a modded s4 doing baby scratches lol)im on the fence as to whether or not to shell out on the z2 and sell my rane ttm56... ive personally never really seen anyone straight killing it with innofaders, let alone minis, which they say "hardcore scratchers" will be the only ones to notice the slight delays...what do they mean by this tho? i know we all saw the instagram pic of craze proudly holding his z2.... i mean if it will satisfy him then id be fine :P having to go with a Frankenstein of a set up, just to get the use of my fader on my rane when i want to cut has really been putting a damper on my ideal workflow , and ive been extensively searching for a solution , so im fairly excited by the z2...i am worried however that i might be too "hardcore" for the minis... any thoughts on this? | |

Lina Rawie 10.11.2012 | They're mini Innofaders that have the tension preset in the factory, so they can either be "loose" or "stiff". There must be something that causes the friction to make the stiff faders stiff and maybe that can be adjusted via a DIY method, but I don't believe that there's a tension adjustment screw like there is with the full version.

Ean Golden is touring with the Z2 but who knows if its modded, special,or whatever.but he doesnt really kut.i still have mad respect for him and the style he does and the Man himself for jus being him...i heard your mixes....great stuff man. truly, j-kutta |
Lina Rawie 10.11.2012 | I can't comment on the sound on a big system man. I'm using the mixer at home where I also only have a set of modest speakers and headphones. It sounds very good to me, but obviously a better sound system is likely to expose any flaws in that respect. I'm tempted to crack open one of the line faders to see if there's a way to mod the tension. I don't believe these faders work in any other mixer (I could be wrong about that though) so I doubt they'd sell on eBay and I need to replace the line faders anyway, so I don't really mind that much if I break one in the process of trying to mod it. |
Winter Ruggio 10.11.2012 | hey, thanks for the fast feed back...the z2 i 'tried out' was owned by a dj who loosened and oiled the up-faders and was pretty dead-on up-wise.the control over traktor is the true beauty, like an Rane 62 over serato or a 68,for most people.i have a very slim Vestax 06 with an X-1 and this is still 'not nearly as wide' as the z2 itself,so i mapped the x1 to do whatever to get in traktor, also a keyboard for the rest.how does it sound onna 'big' system?...i only rocked it on very modest monitors and headphones. thanks again. |
Lina Rawie 09.11.2012 | I love the crossfader in the Z2. The fader is smooth, very light and quiet. The lag is 1-2mm which is fine for me, and the cut-in is crisp. It feels really solid too. It's honestly one of the best faders I've ever used for scratching, although if you're not happy with it, the lack of adjustment options may bother you. I can't say the same for the line faders though, because even though they are technically the same faders, they are preset to be much stiffer and I really don't like that at all. Even doing simple echo fading scratches feels pretty horrible and they are useless for scratching that involves more fader work than that. For a scratch DJ, I believe you'll definitely want to replace the line faders. I already have an Innofader Pro that I'm going to fit as the crossfader (although really, I'm perfectly happy with the crossfader as it is, but I've paid for the Pro now!), then I'll use the existing crossfader as a line fader and buy a new "loose" mini Innofader for the other line fader as soon as they're available. |
Winter Ruggio 09.11.2012 | the throw is 'shorter' on the mini's,but you gotta get used to it.i would keep the mini 'up-faders' but get an inno-pnp or pro for the main fader.but you obviously know whats up if had a rane 56,the magnificent' in my opinion.but mad kats put inno's in their ranes yet still.i personally would go rane then z2,but i havent spent mad time onna z2 yet...please let us know the comparison sound-wise.the ranes sound trump to almost all 2 channel battle mixers. thanks. Lina Rawie 15.10.2012 | Thanks man! |
Noble Check 15.10.2012 | Check out 57:40 - 59:30 or so, decent amount in that bit |
Lina Rawie 15.10.2012 | Does Craze do any scratching in that video? I had a quick skim through it but didn't see any and I can't be bothered to watch it all. If he does, can you tell me the exact time where it starts please? Cheers. |
Erich Vallabhaneni 15.10.2012 | yeah man that's why they always give him their products first so he can "leak" it all over twitter and stuff then show how its supposed to be used |
Ada Matzkin 15.10.2012 | sick vid.... NI can thank craze for being the one to seal the deal :P |
Erich Vallabhaneni 15.10.2012 | Here's a live Ustream Craze did with the Z2 http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/26054228 |
Ada Matzkin 15.10.2012 | Sweet...thanks for all the legit info...guess im sold... |
Tatum Ansaldo 15.10.2012 | Don't have a video, but I saw Shiftee doing some pretty crazy scratching with a Z2 and he said the x-fader was awesome. |
Lina Rawie 15.10.2012 | DJ Excess (the guy on the right) is using an NI Z2 here: - |
Bertie Metro 15.10.2012 | I'm pretty certain that they mentioned the micro delay to be completely honest and unbiased. I installed a proxfade in a vci 100 that i was using to control traktor scratch pro 2 in internal mode (and i scratch a lot), and man i can tell you it cuts really well, i mean so much so like an on/off switch, and i had the traktor latency at 8ms, going lower in latency (my macbookpro is from 2006, the 1rst intel one) it would be even tighter. And to be completely unbiased myself, yes you can feel a slight delay (dependent on your traktor settings), but after using it 5 minutes you don't feel it anymore, its not something that will affect performance. It would be equal to having your speakers 3 meters away instead of in your face. As for the quality of the cut you can expect from an inno, lots of people rate it higher than the rane magnetic crossfader. The mini i don't know, but it should be really good non the less. |
