Its out now, anyone tried it yet?

70% brightness? Are you wearing sunglasses?

I'm not surprised that the iPad 2 is doing better in tests, that retina screen does pull a lot of GPU.

And, as I said, TDJ really isn't taxing the iPad that much. I guarantee the only reason it won't run on an iPad 1 is the iOS 6 requirement. DJ Player works perfectly well on the 1st gen apparently.

Ok todays test is showing much better results.

Reduced the brightness to 50% and ive lost 15% battery in 2 hours.

WOW what a difference. Still its a bit shitty that i cant have the retina screen used as it should be but I believe I can find a compromise around 70% and maybe get a good 5 hours which will get me through my gig.

Spoke to a Dev at NI and he has had the same issue. iPad 2 goes much longer than iPad 4.

Cheers lads.

Will do... but surely I shouldnt have to reduce brightness too much to get better results than 60% of what Apple claims (at best) the battery can last for.

I mean 10 hours is the claim and this is backed up by impartial reviews. I should at least be getting 5 or 6 hours under these conditions (everything off but Traktor DJ)..?

I have the iPad in a Ballistic Tough Jacket as well. Charging it over evening and will test again in the morning with reduced brightness, fresh boot and without the jacket (although It never gets warm anyway).

The thing with TDJ, it's clearly not even that processor intensive. After running it for 6hrs my iPad wasn't even warm, whereas I'd expect it to be after an hour of, say, Infinty Blade. You should DEFINTELY be seeing more than 5 hours IMO.
Yep, something is wrong.
If I dont get better results tomorrow, im hoping over to the Apple store. They usually take one look at my registered products and go out of their way to help (stupid Apple Fanboy).

No mate, I had Airplane Mode on and I have every conceivable notification turned off, all apps closed and all mail etc assigned to manual. Although Airplane mode disables everything anyway.

Damn i need to speak to Apple tomorrow to see if this is normal. I'll also ask the other testers at NI to do the same test and compare results.
Im kinda hoping that its a duff iPad now. I would be happy with just 6 hours especially with the Audio 6 connected (i havent even tested with that yet).

Thanks for the info Mojaxx, worrying but helpful... appreciated.

You don't have 3G or LTE switched on, do you? That would cause a hit, I'd imagine, especially as the app syncs with Dropbox fairly regularly.

Running Traktor DJ, obviously...

The iPad 2 is 16gb, bought 4 months ago refurbished from Apple.

It's the second iPad 2 in my household, and the kind of battery life I'm getting in this test is what I would have expected. I only did the test toevening because your results were worryingly short, and I thought I'd better check for myself before trying the app live next week.

I have to wonder if that big 'ol retina display is what's causing the short battery life, Karlos.

Updated my time test:

iPad 4 64GB, 100% charged:
Traktor DJ , one track with a loop continuously played with no Audio card lasted 4 hours and 15 minutes until the battery was totally dead.

I imagine that mixing and browsing the collection would decrease this somewhat.

Next test: Battery drain with an Audio 6 , powered and on a hub.

I have actually followed the advice on the Apple website to get better battery life. Pretty much turned everything off, and then stuck it in Airplane Mode just to be sure.

I'll test it again anyway.
i am really interested on how long it will last with a komplete audio 6, because the komplete lacks external power. will hopefully have the time next week to test it with a friends soundcard and a powered usb hub..

So a motu ultralite is out of the question I assume?

Was believeing traktor Ipad would be a great 2 deck addition to my CDJs.
But honestly 3 hours of battery life is scary since yo'd have to remember to have it fully charged before every gig. I wouldn't believe of DJing with it half charged for a set longer than a hour.

My test, running a loop on one deck on an iPad 4 fully charged without and audio card and left running drained the battery in 3.5 hours.

I have yet to test it with an audio card that is powered and on a powered hub but I would imagine it would be less that 3.5 hours.

To charge the iPad and output audio you need a specific iOS soundcard like the Apogee Duet2 (ipad/mac edition) which is due for release in a few months and costs about

Just thought I'd put down my thoughts; been playing with the app for a couple of hours over the last couple of days, I'm pleasantly surprised, it's not bad at all. There's obvious areas for improvement/additions when compared to TP itself but as an app for ideas etc, it does it very well. The gridding is very slick as is Freeze.

I may be odd here, but I actually believe I'll use this more for mixing ideas and listening through new tracks than I will for track prep - I'm not a big one on this in any case do most things on the fly in the fully blown Traktor Pro.

A few additions I'd like to see:

- Facility for manual beatmatching tweaks i.e. if slightly out of phase, you can drag the beats back in to line on the fly (similar to jog wheel)
- 4 decks/sample decks
- Be able to set default loop length to 32 beats
- Be able to set default zoom view of waveform - I like to be zoomed out a fair bit
- Not sure if technically feasible at all, more of a 'nice to have' feature; iPad control of the remix decks in Traktor Pro

I'm hoping for this type of integration in a future update as it would be clutch, as it is it will still work well for on the go set prep; listening to the tracks, finding the mix in/out points of the songs and marking them. For the time being, I'll still just have to do initial prep on the Macbook.

p.s. anyone who's been using the app, once you create a playlist is there a way to rearrange the playlist track order?

I've been searching for this answer myself but didn't have too much time over the weekend after picking Traktor DJ up to thoroughly test out the metadata sync function. I was hoping for integration just like you were mentioning, prepping playlists, tags, etc on the go and then having these sync with Traktor Pro.

From what's been mentioned previously, it seems that the actual track preparation sync is fairly limited to just different hot cues. With my normal track prep I always have my #1 cue set as the "Grid." Traktor DJ doesn't seem to allow you to designate this hot cue. Will it update in the Traktor Pro files that his is the "Grid" point?

My previous track prep work flow was;
-Download new Tracks
-Analyze in MIK
-Move into iTunes Library and update tags
-Drag from iTunes Library in Traktor into Playlists and analyze in Traktor(set beatgrids, etc.)

I've correctly synced Traktor DJ/Pro to Dropbox; but am having a difficult time in understanding just how the metadata sync works. I've tried updating a few different songs, but haven't noticed whether it's updating the metedata on the laptop or not.

Bummer. Cheers for the info though Karlos. Be interesting to see what NI say.

Yes you can but I wouldn't suggest it.
Traktor DJ loads up any song you have that it can read. It then creates an analysis file based on the filename of that track and puts that file in Dropbox.
So as long as you have that song on your iPad, it'll be fine. But when it's deleted and redownloaded.. I have no idea what the filename will look like on the iPad and you might lose all the info you put in that analysis file (i.e. BPM, hotcues, rating).

Yo!

I'm old DJ-hero who hasn't been mixing for quite a while, but I'm looking to get back into the game and this seems like a lot fun. Problem is that I no longer own a computer but I do own a iPad 2. I'm just wondering if I can just transfer songs from iTunes and blast away, no TSP etc required?

On first look the V Midi looks like the solution. However whilst it does amplify the audio it still requires a splitter cable. It doesnt provide 2 channel stereo output. Its just a louder splitter cable with a midi i/o.

Close but no cigar

The camera kit will not pass power , not even on a powered hub like mine that can charge the ipad and iPhone at the same time faster than apples power adapters.

The only way to power and pass audio is with a proprietary cable such as the one on the vestal spin 2 and the apogee duet 2 (mac/ipad version).

It's a bitch of a problem that I've been trying to get around for weeks...!!!

I don't plan on performing with it publicly, though - and what would the point of timecode be? If you're using two turntables and a mixer you might as well bust out the computer.
