Have you ever seen your favourite DJ play live?
Posted on: 05.05.2013 by Adrienne Wilcoxen
On Saturday evening I got to see Andy C, my all time favourite DJ, live at WOMB, Tokyo. He started his set at about 1:30am and played through till 4 am and showed off some of the fastest, tightest and most incredible mixing I have ever seen. The man had a giant stage presence and knew how to pump up the crowd and have them hanging off every bass line, mix and drop.

He played on 3 turntables, flawlessly mixing between each one. Dropping track upon track, switching and filtering bass lines and I was 2m away from him the whole set and was able to watch the master work his mixer. A fucking amazing experience!

LOL @ a lot of you naming Producers and not Dj's!

There are 3 Dj's that made me wanna buy Turntables, and from those 3 I've only seen 1 of them live. That list of 3 is Dj Rectangle, Dj E-mann and Bad Boy Bill. I've seen Bad Boy Bill a few times and he's exactly what I expect. Dj Rectangle has kinda gone hiding but I've been told he lives in Las Vegas so many one day. As for Dj E-mann... I don't believe he ever travels outside of Los Angeles.

However there have been a lot of Dj's and Producers I've seen live that have made me go crazy. Dj A-Trak, Dj Craze, Dj Scene, Hardwell, Nicky Romero, Laidback Luke, Deadmau5, Afrojack, and the list goes on. Living in Las Vegas, and Coming from Los Angeles, and being 30 years old. I've seen quite a few performances.

i have seen andy c twice in the states and he killed it both times. I also have had the privilege of not just seeing, but booking and spending 2 weeks with dj craze here in alaska. AMAZING dj who can do anything with any genre and one of the most humble down to earth people i have met,

I also got to see laidback luke in seattle and watch most his set from very close up. I always liked him but after seing him in person and the 4 cdjs he uses i was more then impressed.

Ok not jungle and I have no Idea if he's still any good but Carl Cox use to blow me away with his Tuesday nite residency in London.
I use to live walking distance from the club (no Idea what it's called now) and his 3 deck mixing always blew me away.

When I was full into Jungle, I went and saw Benny Page in Toronto, and it was one of the best shows I've been to. Also got to see demolition man last year.

I've heard awesome things about Camo & Krooked and would love to see them. I've also heard that Friction is a bad man behind the decks.

I like his track selection how he mixes the new and the old. That being said, I'm a big fan of Ram so I'm a little bias.
Andy didn't have GQ with him and the Japanese MC was pretty chilled out, so he took it upon himself to hype the crowd up.

Last time I saw him was about a year ago... He was definitely better when Nightlife 2 dropped in 2004 the first time I saw him as the energy never dropped. He has tended to play a section of neuro in his sets but still smashes it where it counts. I'm with octostout. Camo and Krooked is the best Jump DnB set I have seen followed closely by Chase & Status, TC or Netsky. Actually I saw Camo and Krooked with two of my all time favorite producers Logistics and High Contrast a couple of months ago, compared to C&K, logistics and High Contrast were kinda boring.

Not my favourites, but James Blake and Falty DL positively blew my mind a couple of evening s ago. James Blake was only billed for an hour set, he played around 2 hours and dug deep, after the first hour just took us on an incredible musical journey.

Back on topic, jealous of you lot who have seen Andy C... one day I'll get to see him. Sad to hear his selection is getting a bit off though...

I'd love to see D Bridge sometime, that guy is something else. Goldie would be great to see too.

I've seen him 3 times. Technically, he's an amazing dj, but his selection is awful these days.

Randall is a fantastic DJ who doesn't produce. He plays similar to Andy C, mixes fast with lots of double drops, but his selection is much better IMO. Dieselboy is also an incredible dj that doesn't really produce. Though his selection sucks too.

I've been wanting to see Andy C for YEARS. I'm booked to spin before him at a festival next month, and I cannot possibly tell you how excited I am.

I'd have to say that even including all of the old schoolers I've played with or seen like roni size, aphrodite, bachelors of science, john b, planet of the drums, etc. the BEST Drum n Bass set I've EVER seen was Camo & Krooked. I have NO idea how those kids are so talented. They're only my age and BOTH producing some of the best DnB out there right now, AND playing the most impressive set I believe I've ever seen.

If you haven't seen them, even if you're not into the newer electro-jump up style DnB, go watch them spin. It's ludicrous next-level constant-triplets shit. I knew every track they played and they weren't even playing edits... I could gush about how inspiring their set was for ever.

I see my favorite DJ whenever I want. I look in the mirror.

I'd say 70% of the producers I yearn to see end up being horrible DJ's live.
