Erica Jobe
Biography
FOR ERICA RHONE, MUSIC IS HER LIFE. AND IT PULSATES THROUGH EVERY CELL OF HER BODY. Born in Greensboro, North Carolina, Erica spent her early childhood years mixing her mom’s R&B & hip-hop tapes for friends. Inspired by the ability to move people through sound and vibration, Erica is firmly rooted in the belief that music is a worldly language we all ‘speak’ without moving our lips. Her first DJ crush was on Sasha, which provided her the motivation to follow her own musical dreams. Nowadays, she has another man in her life who inspires her - a dachshund named Oscar. And he makes ALL the decisions. When asked who their favorite label is, Oscar is quick to respond that everything from the Dynamic label is top notch. Erica agrees. In 2007, she landed her first DJ stint at the legendary Cielo. Not one to get caught up in the ‘girl DJ’ trend, she does have a healthy dose of respect for being a woman in this male-dominated industry. “We have a way of nurturing the crowd. The female DJ spreads her feminine energy throughout the space in the way she moves and feels out the room. It’s so inspiring!” “We are all artists and thats the beauty of music, there are no boundaries to creativity and its incredible to see all the new talents coming though the scene” A true global citizen, Erica has toured many cities across the world. From a residency at Bali and the island of Maldives' W Hotel to appearances at Jenja, Mary Magdalene, BASH and Attica, she has covered quite a bit of ground in Asia. (She is convinced she was a secret agent in Southeast Asia with X-Ray vision in a past lifetime, which explains the pull this region of the world has on her.) But Burning Man holds a near and dear spot in this tough cookie’s heart. DJing at Robot Heart and Bubbles & Bass, her face lights up. “My feet didn’t touch the ground for the whole gig! We all vibrate and exist with energy and I received so much from the crowd that I was charged for days! When she’s not busy dreaming about being a unicorn, you can usually find Erica pumping iron at the gym, cycling in a sweat-drenched spin class, or catching her breath with yoga - usually all within the same day - and then capping off her nights spinning at clubs and parties around the world.
