Really big issue with the Numark 4Trak. Help!
Really big issue with the Numark 4Trak. Help! Posted on: 14.09.2013 by Kristel Wattenberg Hi,So I've had my 4trak for about 2 weeks now. Over that period of time, there have been about 4 occurrences where the controller will just randomly stop sending MIDI signals to traktor, and so, I'm left controller-less where the only solution is to restart traktor. Luckily this has not happened at a gig yet but there's a concerningly large probably that it could happen during a mix which would be very very bad. I literally have no idea why this happens. There doesn't seem to be any sort of trigger. Just sometimes, the controller decides to stop controlling the software. I have a Samsung Laptop running Windows 8 using Traktor 2.6. If there is no solution, I don't see how I could use this controller live because if I had to embarrassingly restart traktor, well, that would suck. | |

Kristel Wattenberg 07.10.2013 | It's definitely windows 8. Although it's hard to replicate the issue to really test it, my brother has used the 4trak on his computer many times with windows 7 and has never seen the issue. It has only ever happened on my laptop with windows 8. I just made the windows 7 partition of my hard drive, and i have a very important gig this saturday. The true test will be whether or not it holds up during the gig. It's the first gig i'm going to be doing with the 4trak, and we'll have a vci-400 there as well. I'll let everyone know how it goes after, here's to hoping that the issue was solely from windows 8 and that i won't look like a baboon with 2 minutes of silence in the middle of my set. |
Valery Forestier 06.10.2013 | I am running windows 7 and on a usb 3.0 and have had my 4trak for about a year. I have never had this issue. Specs on computer are vizio ultra book, i7 processor, and 250gb ssd. I am not sure if it's the computers that cannot hang or the windows 8 affecting your guys issues. Not trying to come off as a dick, just trying to help pin point issue. Btw, this is my DJ computer and I have no bloatware or any other add on programs except traktor on there. |
Belen Wermes 05.10.2013 | well give it a try! uninstall then reinstall drivers with it plugged into USB 2.0. let us know if you have any luck |

Kellie Myrum 23.09.2013 | Does traktor load too much cpu? Do you have any other MIDI task running? |
Chas Kreamer 22.09.2013 | Well, I installed Windows 7 on a spare partition on my laptop, and I've had zero issue. In fact, it runs even smoother, not considering the responsiveness problem. I called Numark and they said they don't support windows 8 with the 4trak yet, and do not know when the driver will be released for it. |
Kristel Wattenberg 22.09.2013 | Bump, for more help. |

Or i'll probably just end up making a windows 7 or xp partition with an account JUST for djing, i've kind of been meaning to do that anyway to keep work/personal a little more separated and organized. |
Dannie Dimora 19.09.2013 | 1) downgrade the firmware 2) try on a different computer, with a different usb cable, fix the cable connector to the 4trak with duct tape so you can be sure it's not moving there. |

Damion Panyanouvong 18.09.2013 | I believe I read the 4Traks incompatibility with W8 somewhere. Try it with a different computer/OS. How often does it happen? Im running XP and I never experienced this problem. |

I got it on Amazon for only $420 "new", but I noticed out of the box it didn't have the protective film on the platters. I'm getting a little worried I may have been sold a defective and returned unit as new, and idk what Numark would do about the warranty for that. I did buy insurance with my controller though, so that might work for it. Numark customer service is live right now, so I'll give them a call and see what's up. I also noticed a few things, like how sometimes the main unit will stop responding, but the fx bar will still work, as well as the opposite, with the main unit working but the fx bar dying, though the former happens a lot more than the latter. It seems more reliable if I plug them in separately (rather than daisy chain the main unit into the fx bar) and the unresponding issue happens less, but it still happens. As far as specifically what happens, this is usually what happens 1) I'll touch the jog wheels for normal use 2) suddenly my spinny stuff doesn't affect it, but the light still keep turning and the music still playing 3) no buttons work! |
Many Farnsley 18.09.2013 | I have a 4trak as well and this problem did happen to me right in the middle of a show. Talk about embarassing, had about 2 minutes of no music while people just stared at me llike i was crazy. One of the reasons I am wanting the s4 now. These people regularly used me for there events after that occurence they havent hit me back yet. Good luck and I hope you find a cure but wouldn't count on it. |
Damion Panyanouvong 18.09.2013 | Let me know how it goes. Good luck! |
Chas Kreamer 18.09.2013 | Oh wow, I've actually been having the exact same problem. just registered this account once I realized you were having this problem too right now. Mine happens only every once in a while if I touch the jogs. I've been able to replicate the problem and it always happens when I'm spinning the jog wheels. I'm hoping its software and not a hardware problem because it would be a pain in the ass to return this thing and wait for another controller to ship in. I'll install traktor on another computer and try to replicate the issue on another computer to see if it happens again. |

Maybe it's a stupid idea, but suppose you hook the 4Trak to your PC trough another USB port? Im sure you've tried it before, this is just in case you havent. Maybe the port you're usingis buggy or some shit. |

It could also be something to do with the midi cable your using maybe?
Also just checking do you have all the up to date drivers and have all the older ones deleted. If you have the older files still installed it can corrupt traktor. Its more of a problem when using serato tho.

Damion Panyanouvong 16.09.2013 | Hey there! Since the Numark 4trak is a stand alone mixer as well, you could plug in your phone or ipod into it with a simple rca cable. Say to channel D. Then if all goes wrong you have backup music, just by flicking the Line/PC button on the mixer and voila! You now have the chance to restart Traktor while your music is still playing! Good luck solving your software problem though! |
Lannie Kutay 16.09.2013 | its a fiddly midi controller. I know on mac i had to roll back the driver, to an earlier one and it worked flawless then. |

Kristel Wattenberg 15.09.2013 | Regardless, I'll try it but i'm pretty sure that's not the issues. I've used other controllers on my laptop with specific drivers, windows 8, and traktor 2.6 such as the VCI-400, but I have no issues with them. |
