How do you remember tracks played with cds?
Posted on: 06.01.2014 by Luciano Hyppolite
As the tittle asks, I'm transitioning to playing with cds (LOVING IT!) and I wanted to know how do you guys remember which tracks you have already played in a set!

I'm currently playing with a couple of Denon DNS 1000 that a friend gave me.

I want to know your tips and tricks!

1 track per cd, bring an extra case along or have room in the back of your case to put your cds in after you played them, that way you'll be able to know what tracks you played and have them in the order you played them.

If you were buying vinyl your mindset would change, when your spending 8 quid on a record you only buy the best.
Especially true when adding in shipping costs, which just added $40 to my purchase at juno. But, they had five slabs that were on my want list. Plus, they're having a crazy sale on a lot of stuff, making the international shipping um...more swallowable. (not a word, I know)

Don't go buying anything, curate a library of the best, cut the crap. And learn it all.

^Great advice.

100 Tracks a week is far too many for me. If I was able to find 10 a week I'd be overjoyed.

But I can go for weeks (months if I'm busy) without adding genuine library (read: KEEPERS) tracks.

100 Tracks a week is overkill in my opinion, is there really that much good stuff coming out each week.

Now I don't buy digital, but if I did, I wouldnt be buying that much a week.

Vinyl wise I probably buy between 15-25 records a month sometimes less, which equates to maybe 60-100 tracks if there all had 4 tracks on which to be honest most have 2/3. Which means I actually have plenty of time to play listen and learn my music.

Don't go buying anything, curate a library of the best, cut the crap. And learn it all.

we all know there are ways of downloading TONS of tracks a day
You dont need to do that. Just download what you like and dont waste time with the rest
That way you wont have to memorize 1000 tracks (how long is it goingto take you to get through all of them anyway?)

Instead all youll remember is 100, which is actually a decent amount of music to attain per week.
Think about it
4 days of 25 song downloads is a lot
then take a break for 3 days, listening to your new music.

I believe you are in overkill mode mate

lol could be, i believe it was the pioneer video. Also i do have alot cds with lots of tracks on them. But you just gotta remember what you played.

Usually if i have a "Set" planned then ill do the one song per cd thing, but if I am playing some kind of 5 hour free-form set then i have tons of loaded cds.

Pretty much what Jester and Janky have suggested: write them down. I use Traktor and an X1, so what I do when practicing is create a TextEdit file of tracks that go well together and then organize them accordingly in a Traktor playlist later on. After practicing/gigging enough, you'll remember clusters easily.

The answer is to snap the CD once you've played it.

That's how Chad jackson used to do it with vinyl...

Pretty much what everyone is saying. Just practice and practice with the tracks you have, learn different track combinations and pay attention to your music.
