Not a big fan of dubstep, but I feel bad for you guys on this one. Just have to wait and see what P. Diddy and Guy Gerber come up with now

Katy B is down with rinse FM, THE pirate radiostation that kickstarted dubstep on a global level, they had listeners locked in across the globe.
Also very important is the fact that her songs are produced by fucking magnetic man, none other then benga, skream and artwork.
Sure these dudes also went a bit more mainstream but at least they were the real OGs some time ago.
That's still gonna give you a more quality track then, like xone said, a generic producer.

And the snoop dog track is not even in the same freaking leage, it's just eastern jam with snoop's vocals on top. Thus it also has a quality track underneath that was altered for fame and whealth's sake.

EDIT: Now that I looked into it, the snoop track is not even a legit one, it's just the work of a bedroom producer.
And also fyi rinse FM is a legit station now.
I don't believe you understand what I was trying to say. I already know and understand everything you said about Katy B, Magnetic Man, and Rise. I was just making a simple statement that pop dubstep is nothing new.

Chase and Status are not bedroom producers.

That track was serious.

But all I was trying to say that no matter what nothing will "kill" a genre. Especially when it's just someone popular dabbling in it. The world just keeps turning.

Mala has quite a lot of amazing tunes, this however is not my cup of tea. But it's great he 's trying new angles.

And +1 on that digging for dubstep, I search about an hour a day for new stuff and everyday I'm blown away by some gems.

And btw if you like those old songs why don't you spin them ?

I stopped listening to dubstep a while ago but nice to see the genre isn't hopeless. Cool stuff.

I agree with you on the fact that pop dubstep is nothing new, it's in cornflakes commercials after all
But I can enjoy the Katy B song a lot more then the JB one. And also wanted to point out to everyone else that the people who made the underlying beat are probably very different, what will have an effect on the style and feel of the song.

I also am aware that chase & status are not bedroom producers, I was very aware of this when they were performing live in front of my face at Rock Werchter and at I Love Techno a couple months later. (WOW! They are amazing live, they have an mc that is a great addition to their performance.)
But that video makes it look like someone pirated a daw, took eastern jam, found a snoop dog vocal, did a little cutting here and there and threw em together.

And also couldn't agree more that a genre can be killed, definitely not by a single song, in fact I believe a got a post in this thread here somewhere where I said that the world will just keep on spinning.

Sure it's the first pop dubstep track from someone at justin bieber's level. But it's definitely not the first pop dubstep song. Katy B has been doing that for awhile.

And let's not forget when chase, status and snoop dogg trampled all over the genre.

In the end I just believe everyone is making a big deal over something that doesn't really mean much.

The part I don't get is they could have paid an actual dubstep producer to make the track, hell they could have paid any of the thousands of bedroom soundcloud dubstep producers to make a better base track. Sounds like they just paid some regular generic studio/producer (a lot of money) who had never heard of dubstep to make something for them.

From what little I've seen of Bieber as a person it's seems like he's an okay kid. He reminds me of justin Timberlake in how he kind of pokes fun at himself sometimes.

His music is total crap though.

hggsdjfnnvfdsjh I spin all forms of Dubstep along with electro, dnb, etc.

Not sure if this is really a big deal or not though, I mean the kid has kinda grown up. the whole hate thing disappeared, totally cool if he actually likes the music, but he's just doing it for the hype kinda lame. especially if he tries to do it to his own music, but if he just makes a couple of these crap tracks, realizes they're crap, and just wants to spin; mroe power to him. but I believe that's wishful believeing.
