Like with anything, you want something at least mid-range, because whenever you buy gear you want to consider "resale" and whether it has the features that'll keep you going for a while. Otherwise you're going to be stuck with some "beginner" gear that nobody wants to buy, then it's pretty much a paperweight. Figure out if you want to go the controller route, or go the "scratch" route via CD Players, or Turntables. Since it seems like you want controllers, the Novation Twitch is a good place to start. It has very "pro" features which will keep you entertained indefinitely, is a decent piece of gear, and can be had right now for as little as $399US. |

There are plenty of threads about good beginner gear for both areas (djing, producing).
