Like, new music that's not going to be released for a while, say, 3-6 months. Or VIP's that only get put out on soundcloud, etc. You cant have that on beatport mixes. So, if I was a label currently putting out a monthly podcast/mix on itunes promoting my soon to be released album. I couldn't even use this service. FAIL! Q: Who are the primary audience for mixes? A: DJ's! Q: Why do DJ's listen to mixes? A: For new music! That's not to say these wouldn't be useful if you were to be investigating a new genre of music, but why buy the mix when you could preview the tracks anyway? Screw beatport and its idiotic marketing department. |
Jolynn Schroyer 21.06.2012 | I never use beatport. Everything cost money and way too much money. |
Lashawn Maycock 21.06.2012 | I wish Beatport would concentrate on organising the music better, improve the bizarre genre definitions and stop highlighting the same old artists/music styles.... actually, scrap that, just remembered I've given up on Beatport. |

This is only to make beatport more money. We only make 10% while Labels and everyone else makes 60%+ I'll stick to the free resources like sound cloud. |

Cristian Carmona 20.06.2012 | i see the beatport mixes working because a lot of the pro's will host their mixes there and will filter a lot of junk that is posted on mixcloud and soundcloud. Dont get me wrong a lot of good stuff is on SC & MC but its like going crate digging to find quality stuff. I would want to see how SC & MC are going to respond to this move. |
Johnetta Olewine 20.06.2012 | Why the fuck would I buy someone elses mix when I can get most of the big name DJs that I follow for free? The whole thing doesn't make any sense to me as there is no market, and has never been a market to sell DJ mixes since people used to buy CDs. Won't get past beta IMO. |
Devora Chait 20.06.2012 | Hm, I believe this is actually a really cool idea =), checking out the page and heck, it's a great platform for solid exclusive DJ mixes. Add to that the ability to upload your own mix? I like it ^^ |
Werner Bile 20.06.2012 | Let me amend what I said, I believe big name djs will probably be able to sell their sets this way if they want to, where I believe it will fail is that this isn't going to help unknown DJs get exposure. Which may not be their goal anyway, though making it so anyone can upload and sell a mix sort of sends that message. |
Cristian Carmona 20.06.2012 | i just signed up to be part of the beta. lets see que pasa. |

Werner Bile 20.06.2012 | Great idea in theory, but in practice I can't see this working. too many free sources of mixes already out there and too restrictive with the rules about only using tracks you bought on beatport. |
Yevette Matatall 20.06.2012 | I believe its cool, everything else aside it sturs in me a little competative spirit.... I can see where beatport is going with it....they say they wont pull a direct profit from it, but there will be a number of dj's that will take part and at the end of the day it will be easier for the dj's to buy all thier music from BEATPORT. Its smart. Everybody loves a top 10, top however many list, humans are suckers for it, iand it will generate revenue for them whilst clocking up brownie points with labels and artists at the same time.... I dont believe it will be long before you see such and such's new remix released exclusivly on BEATPORT. if I was a big label, id be siding with beatport right now. |
Tonisha Rayman 20.06.2012 | I just don't believe people will buy actual mixes when you find them so easily. I mean do mixes fall under actually stealing music? Since in the first place djs are just playing parts of songs. |
Kasandra Kreindler 20.06.2012 | its gonna be a complete flop #mscleohasspoken |
Romelia Stankard 20.06.2012 | I really wonder how the logistics of this will actually work out... |
Jerica Salava 20.06.2012 | one question: Who are the PRO's (Performance Rights Organizations) for small EDM labels ??? > |
